Top Amazon Reviews

  • Useful mini LED track light with handy features and IR remote control
This review is specifically for the Amazon item listed as “BIGLIGHT LED Track Light, Dimmable Accent Lighting with Rotatable Heads, Plug in Spotlight with Remote Control for Highlight Kitchen Counter Cabinet Gallery Picture Bathroom Basement Artwork”, and not for any other item even if it seems similar. This is a mini LED track light, with the overall track length being 15.75” [40cm]. The useable part of the track, where the lamp contact bases slide in a recessed channel, is 13.5” [34cm]. There are three (3) LED lamps, each on its own swivel contact base, and the furthest apart the outer two lamps can be is 12” [30cm] (center to center). Within the channel and the dimensional constraints just mentioned, you can slide any lamp to any position; there is nothing other than stick friction to lock the lamps into position in the channel. Each lamp housing contains a single LED chip, with a bit of a reflector behind and a clear dust cover (non-optical lens) in front. Each lamp housing can be rotated 360 degrees and also swiveled 180 degrees, so you can point any given LED in any direction within a virtual hemisphere. The swivels have just enough friction to keep them from flopping around loosely, but there seems to be no obvious way to make them tighter. As long as the object you mount the track light on is stationary and not subject to vibration, I think they will stay in the positions you put them. However, I think if this track light were to be mounted on something mobile, e.g. a motor home/RV, etc; you would have to reposition the lamps every time you want to use the light. The track light comes with an AC “wall wart” power adapter which can be used on any AC ‘mains’ outlet between 100 and 240 Volts, regardless of 50 or 60 Hz frequency. The cord on the power adapter is about 70” long. A barrel plug on the end of the cable fits into a barrel socket on one end of the track light. A small red LED next to the socket illuminates to show that the track light is getting power. There is no direct provision for battery operation. The power supplied by the power adapter is 5V at close to 1.2A. An adventurous and electrically handy owner could probably rig up a battery that could plug into the track in place of the power adapter. The adapter is marked as UL Listed. A momentary-action pushbutton on the track, located adjacent to the end with the power jack, allows turning the LEDs on and off instantly with a push; push to turn them on, push again to turn them off. This pushbutton’s operating surface is in the form of a very dark red plastic dome, and presumably this is because it also acts as the receiving lens/filter for the IR (infrared) remote control. The IR remote control is a palm-sized type, quite small, and it uses a CR2025 coin battery (included). A pair of red and green click-dome/membrane buttons allow turning the lamps full on or full off, duplicating the action of the power switch pushbutton on the track. A group of four more buttons allow instant setting of lamp brightness to either 50% or 100%, or adjusting + and – to produce any brightness between a very low level up to full brightness. If using the remote instead of the main power switch to turn the lamps on/off, there is a memory feature that will remember the last brightness setting and return to it each time the lamps are turned back on. Finally, there are four more buttons for a timer-off feature; pressing the 15, 30, 60 or 120 minutes buttons will result in the lamps turning off automatically after that amount of time has elapsed. After pushing any of these four buttons, the lamps will flash briefly to acknowledge that the timing has started. Turning the lamps off manually using the normal on/off buttons will reset (turn off) the timer-off feature. The user manual/installation instructions in English are printed on one side of a piece of paper, with the reverse side having just the text translated in both French and German. The English text is clearly written and covers both installation and operation in detail. The specifications in the manual state that the LEDs produce 500 LM (Lumens) with a color temperature of 3000K Warm White. The color temperature is not user adjustable. The LED lifespan is estimated as being 30,000 hours. Using hardware provided with this product, the track light can be mounted using two methods: - Snap the track light into a pair of plastic mounting brackets which get screwed to a wall or cabinet, etc. - Use the built-in neodymium magnets of the rear side of the track light to hold it to the provided postage-stamp-sized steel plates, which in turn can be stuck onto any suitable surface using the similarly sized 3M adhesive foam pads (also included). Because the magnets are recessed into the rear of the rack (to keep the rear flush with the mounting surface when the metal plates are used), you probably will not be able to directly have the magnets against metal shelving or cabinets. But if you purchase some small coin-sized neodymium magnets (two of them), you could have them act as intermediaries between the magnets on the track light and the desired metal mounting surface. The Amazon listing suggests that this product will be attractive for applications such as: - Highlighting areas or objects (but not very big ones since the size is fairly small and Lumens is not all that powerful) - Underneath kitchen counters and cabinets (or inside larger ones to illuminate the interiors) - Galleries to illuminate displayed artifacts and pictures - Bathrooms - Basements It would probably also work well for lighting up small areas on workbenches, if there is a place to mount it overhead such that the lights don’t shine into your eyes. In my own application, I mounted the track light onto a cinder block wall in my basement (using the included plastic mounting brackets, screws and plastic expansion anchors). I have it illuminating the tops of the dual yacht/marine batteries of my AC/DC “Basement Watchdog” sump pump setup, thus making battery maintenance (inspection and topping off of fluids) much easier. I can swivel one or more lamps to aim light directly at, and even down into, individual cells on the batteries, handy when trying to add distilled water. To keep the remote control from getting lost, I used one each of the included small metal plates and adhesive foam pads to result in a magnetically attractive back on the remote control. The I used a neodymium magnet I had laying around and stuck it on a nearby metal outlet box, so now the remote control just stays stuck to that box until I need it. This seems to be a well-designed product of decent quality. I anticipate that it will continue to work well for years to come. ... show more

  • This is a great light
This light is just great - the individual lights adjust nicely and the remote control is the real high point. It works perfectly, even though I bought two lights - one remote works for both. The dimming feature is especially nice. I bought two of these as a bit of an unneeded splurge, but now that they're in use I'm so glad I have them. Mounting them was simple and the average person should be able to handle it. As you can see I really like them -and I'm using them a lot - not the cheapest option but a great design and worth it. ... show more

  • Nice little led track spots…
Being a Photographer and not an electrician, I wanted simple to install task lighting for my framed work. This fit the bill. Extremely light, installation is as easy as plugging it in, and the lights are more than adequate for lighting my work. The only downfall I had was the remote was missing. I contacted the company and within a week I had 2 replacement remotes delivered, which was included with 2 smaller battery operated task lights… which went up promptly in a dark stairwell of ours. Very good customer service. There was an issue and they went above and beyond to rectify the problem. ... show more

  • Nice small track light set with remote
This is a very small track lighting set, less than 18” long. It comes with an IR (line of sight) remote. It is easy to install, comes with screws. The set requires a nearby outlet. The lights are LED and fairly bright for their size. There’s three of them which can be all be pointed in almost any direction. The remote works fine (remember it’s line-of-sight only before you install it) and the lights dim smoothly. ... show more

  • Update. Great easy light but my on/off switch broke after 5 months
Leaving my original review below. I purchased this in April and on Sept 4th the lights went dim. I use both the remote and the manual switch to power them on/off because sometimes it's quicker with the manual switch if the remote is misplaced. The lights dimmed and I used the switch to power them off and back on and they would flicker bright, then dim and mostly stay dim. I used the remote with no improvement. I took the light down and I could hear a bit of rattle in the switch. I tested with another power supply I had for other lights that was the same volt/watt requirement and no luck. At one point I pushed the button and I heard something physically break and it is done, dead, won't power on now. It saddens me as my sink is so dark now LOL. I guess you get what you pay for. I may actually reorder as I like the form factor but even at 27 bucks I expect it to last a year maybe. It is good for what it is. I live in SF where living spaces can be hacked up in weird ways. I have a large kitchen but it is interior with no immediate natural light at all. My sink was dark and poorly lit. This did the job and gave me an easy way to add light to it. I used the magnetic install which took minutes and even though you can knock it down it seems fine for my purposes. If you need more secure install them the brackets that came with it seem like a good option. My only complaint is the lights are almost too focused. I wished I could difuse them a bit. But they are bright and easily moved to any position. Also the remote makes changing brightness easy. ... show more
