I've loved the Bialetti Moka Express, and the coffee it brews, for decades. After beginning in the Seventies with Medaglia d'Oro dark-roast coffee, I branched out to whole-bean coffee, freshly ground, and continued to love what the Moka Express does. Recently, I discovered that the Bialetti company sells their own coffee, in various roasts and blends, all ground to the preferred specification for the Moka Pot. So I decided to give it a try and see what the manufacturer thinks their coffee should taste like. Mini review: it tastes fabulous. The coffee isn't as dark as a typical espresso roast, much less a French roast, and is much less bitter than the Medaglia d'Oro (which I also revisited in a separate review here). It's got cocoa and caramel notes underneath a beautiful aroma, and produces what I call "coffee that tastes like coffee." Black or with a little turbinado sugar and milk, it's a lush, rich way to start the day. The instructive part: it's ground SIGNIFICANTLY finer than I've been grinding coffee for the last however-many years I've been doing it. I have been known to keep around a bag of preground coffee (Peet's Major Dickason's, most often, for a morning comfort brew) and just toss that into the Moka pot's filter basket. It's good... but was never quite as opaque or textured as I remembered. And now I know why. I'll dial the grinder about ten clicks finer than I've been doing and see if that produces coffee at the same fineness as the Bialetti product. And I'll try a number of different roasts and single-origin beans just to see what the extraction is like. Dark Guatemalan? Bali Blue Moon? Maybe even that Peet's Major D but ground to the right level? We'll see. As the song says, it's a whole new world. ... show more

Love Bialetti products, but I must have gotten a stale bag of their coffee. Figured it was worth a try. So many good local coffees available now, it probably wasn't the best purchase.

    • Not a bad coffee, but too fine for moka pot.

Tried it in moka pot and the flavor was always quite harsh regardless of the brewing method and dosage (hot/cold start etc.). The grind size just seem to be too fine for a moka pot. But when I tried it in aeropress it turned out fine, even works in a pour over somehow.

Was damaged when I recive it bag wasn't sealed properly its ok I try the coffe it's tasteless not worth the price for sure maybe because the coffe had air going inside also The other coofe i buy was not good aswell .
