I'm really impressed by Bellroy's new Apex Slim Sleeve. I can't speak for how long it'll hold up, but my first impression is that this is the perfect minimalist wallet. The magnets help keep the package nice and tight, while holding up to 6-8 cards and ~4-5 folded bills comfortably - any more and you'll start to notice the magnets won't fully latch. Needless to say, it's not recommended for people who normally carry 10+ credit cards in their wallet or who always carry wads of cash. Another thing I came to really appreciate is the innovation behind their laminated design (vs. stitched seams). It really does make the wallet look super clean and sophisticated.     • Very slick, but slightly larger -- and how long will it last?

I bought a Bellroy Slim Sleeve (the normal edition) just shy of ten years ago and noticed a tear in one of the interior corners that was growing pretty quickly as I kept using the wallet. I saw this one when I went to buy a replacement, and was curious enough to try it out. The two wallets are very similar, but there are some key differences: * The magnets. I'm indifferent-to-negative about a magnetic attachment. It feels awkward to open when the wallet is empty, but when I stuff my normal load of cards and cash in, it just helps the wallet stay closed -- not that I need that, since it lives in my pocket. But maybe nice if kept in a purse or backpack? * The Apex actually has a slightly larger footprint. This is reflected in the specs, and they seem accurate. But don't be misled -- the heat-bonded leather may make for a *slightly* thinner wallet, but it extends out wider and taller to provide the leather for bonding. * The colors! This may just be because Bellroy has expanded their color palette over the years, but the Apex has a lot more color choices than when I last bought a wallet from them. My Indigo wallet is very blue, but the interior is less orange and more brown than I expected from the photos. My main question is how long this heat bonding will last. Reviews suggest it won't be the ten years my previous wallet went for? Having experienced the wallet, I like it, but I think I'd recommend a regular Slim Sleeve instead -- the wallet thickness is likely dominated by your cards/cash collection; the Slim Sleeve is slightly smaller in the remaining dimensions; and the Slim Sleeve is likely more durable. (Also, it's half the price!) ... show more

First impression was definitely that this wallet was not for me, but wanting to simplify/minimize my wallet situation I gave it a go. Once the leather gets broken in, its capacity becomes significantly greater/easier to get things out, currently I have 3 credit cards, 2 ID cards, 3 business cards, 5-6 bills, a few slips/tickets, and a flat house key, and it still clicks and stays shut magnetically! Just received my wallet today and was very excited to transfer over to this one. I had done a little research between this, Ridge, and Ekster ultimately deciding I wanted the more classic wallet over the mechanism driven ones. High online ratings had me sold on this Bellroy and it met my capacity needs, advertised as 6-8. It is an extremely light wallet, kind of alarmingly so. The disappointment came when I put 7 cards in and found the wallet no longer closes. I ended up having to reduce to 4 and the magnetic closure barely works, even while trying to hold it closed. It was unfortunate to find that what looked promising as a nice product turned out to be a bust, especially at $130. ... show more

I like slim wallets. The ones with metal $ clips end up tearing up my back pocket. The ones with magnet $ clips or which fold around a metal clip also have their functional limitations. A quality slim wallet without any "clips" is difficult to find and, when I have found one, isn't usually well made. I did my homework this time and found this one. I love it so far.     • Nice, but I can’t close it

Despite the reviews I read about this not closing, I decided to purchase this wallet for its look. I also decided to use the wallet for some time before writing a review. Here’s what I’ve found: Like others I cannot get the wallet to close fully. My setup: I put my license in the left pocket and cash in the sleeve behind. I put my debit card in the right pocket, and 5 cards in the sleeve behind. This may be too many cards for it to close as the sleeves just may not be thick enough. Even reducing the number to 3 cards and it still won’t close (note: I have one thick credit card and 2 insurance cards. I’d guesstimate this about 2mm thick). Since it’s been in use unfortunately I have slightly warped the edges now making it impossible to fully close. However in all cases the magnets are strong enough to stay closed in my setup. As far as the quality goes, I really like this wallet. It is made well and is a unique and nice design. The leather is quite soft and has a very nice hand. I chose the blue color with burnt orange and those who’ve seen the wallet frequently compliment me. It’s also quite sleek and works well in my front pocket which is what I prefer. I also quite love the tab to help pull the cards out. I also don’t worry about skimmers as this blocks RFID via the faraday caged design. So, while it won’t fully close and I may be overpacking it, I would still recommend this because of it’s aesthetic and features. No it will not fully close (and likely never due to my setup) but it serves the purpose of being small, functional, and also looks good. ... show more
