Description

Newbery Award winner Beverly Cleary delivers a humorous portrayal of the ups and downs of sisterhood. Both the younger and older siblings of the family will enjoy this book. Having a little sister like four-year-old Ramona isn’t always easy for Beezus Quimby. With a wild imagination, disregard for order, and an appetite for chaos, Ramona makes it hard for Beezus to be the responsible older sister she knows she ought to be…especially when Ramona threatens to ruin Beezus’s birthday party. Will Beezus find the patience to handle her little sister before Ramona turns her big day into a complete disaster? "An important reminder of the good that can come when you throw yourself fully into any situation and draw outside the lines," says Brightly in their article "12 Girls from Fiction Who Are Their Own Heroes." • A pleasure to listen to for all ages.
Lovely, timeless story. Lighthearted and funny, but touches on common childhood issues as well, and therapeutic for kids in that aspect. Stockard Channing is just incredible as the voice actress for this series. A pleasure to listen to for all ages. My 8-year-old, who dislikes reading, was so entertained with this book on CD that I am buying the entire series. (We are in the car a lot.) She identifies with Beezus, since she has a younger brother, and laughs every time Ramona speaks, thanks to Channing's hilarious, adorable 4-year-old "Ramona" persona. Be prepared to explain to your child what a lot of the toys are that the kids play with in the book - the story is indeed timeless, but it was well before widespread electronic entertainment. (Reminded me of some good ideas for electronic-free entertainment for my own kids.) Product was shipped quickly and in new condition. Case was plastic-wrapped. Entire story was on 2 CDs, a few hours' running time. ... show more

  • Audible add-on good, with one exception
I bought this for my 5 year old daughter who is learning to read and is transitioning to chapter books. This whole series by Beverly Cleary is classic and I won't reiterate all the great things people have already said about the quality of the story. For the story alone, this gets five stars from me. Why the four stars? This book is on the long side for my young reader, so I decided to purchase this in the Kindle edition with the $2.99 Audible add-on. The feature is really good in that it highlights the words as the narrator reads. I feel as though it is helping to keep her focused on reading for longer than she might otherwise. I understand that she might be inclined to just sit back and listen, but that is also okay with me. As long as she is in front of a book I am happy. BUT...as with most narration, it moves along at a good clip. I was drawn to the Audible component in part because it offers the option of changing the speed. I figured 3/4 speed would slow things down just enough that it wouldn't bog down the flow of the story but it would help my daughter keep up as she tries to read along. Well, it turns out that 3/4 speed is slower but it changes to sound so that the narration has an echo that is so distracting that the option is useless. Great book with a very good Audible add-on but with one particular flaw that irked me. ... show more

  • Funny, perfect book for 3rd grader.
I read this book when I was younger & loved it. So, when it was time for my granddaughter to move on to chapter books this one came to mind. Once in awhile I’ll hear her giggle while reading.
