I bought these boots for every day wear and well I can’t regret it. I was hesitant about buying them because of the reviews. These are good boots and because my feet are skinny they fit pretty well. If you wear converse or shoes similar then these boots would fit you perfectly. The problems? One is the zipper. They are abit hard to unzip but with some Vaseline they zip perfectly. So it easily can be worked around for that problem. The waterproofing is limited. Not fully waterproof. If you want to make it fully waterproof. Spray it with some protective coating so it can keep your feet dry while in the water. Only downside of doing that is breathability. My last one would be comfort but they are really comfortable. If your on your feet all day they are okay as long as your moving around. If your standing in one spot for hours without taking a step then you will feel abit uncomfortable but not painful. So make sure you are doing something other than standing still. I’m on my feet for 8 to 12 hours depending on what I’m doing in or after work. So for 4 hours and maybe an hour of doing nothing but standing in place is pretty good.my last suggestion for people with abit wider fee would be to get thinner socks or breathable socks. Bought these for my son, he loves them, wears them daily to work and is on his feet working 9 hours a day. They are a rugged boot and comfortable on your feet. Highly recommended, went to other shoe stores for pricing and actually better priced on Amazon. Exactly same boot.

    • Not the replacement I had hoped for.

No issues with the seller - great transaction. I've been wearing the Bates side zip composite safety toe boots for at least a decade, replaced yearly whether they needed it or not. Then they quit making that particular boot. This was as close as I could get. The 1 benefit is waterproofing but that has yet to be tested. The big drawback of this boot is the also the waterproofing - the old boot opened fully at the zipper, but the new boot only opens about 1/2 of that. It's a very tight fit to get into these boots regardless of how loose the laces are. And my feet aren't big. Also, it's much tighter at the ankle once it is tied but above that it feels loose. My fault for not trying on a pair first, and hoping they'd loosen up a little with some use. I won't buy another pair of this style. ... show more

Sizing is right on and the boot is super comfortable and there was hardly no break-in time. I use the boot as a duty boot and the side zip makes them super fast on and off.

I've had Bates steel toe boots like these for decades and i love them. These are just as great as always but.. i hate the gusseted zipper on the side. It's necessary for water resistance, which seems odd since it has cloth patches, but what it does do that i don't like is pretty much invalidating the zippers functionality. Sure you can get your foot further before you have to untie it to put your feet on, but you still have to untie them. again, GREAT BOOTS, but the easy on and off isn't really there. ... show more

The originals were lighter, easier to get on and off, and had better breathability. That being said, I still like these, especially for winter.

I e worn Bates boots for a large part of my LEO career and had always been satisfied. This time though, no happy. It’s been less than 6 weeks and I rotate this pair with 2 other pairs of boot I wear on patrol so they have maybe 2 weeks worth of wear. Shouldn’t be falling apart already.
