Features

  • EASY TO USE: Bleecker Station's Bat System is easy to use - simply lift inner bats from the insert tab in the outer bat using your fingers or a flat potters tool. The outer bat has holes drilled through and is also easy and to slip onto and off your pottery wheel pins. Fits standard wheel heads with pin holes spaced 10 apart on center
  • SAVE SPACE: Save precious space in your ceramics studio by drying your pots on small square inserts instead of regular round bats, which can take up a foot of space or more on your shelves.
  • MORE ENJOYABLE: Masonite absorbs water allowing your pot to release itself as it dries, which is safer than cutting it off the wheel head with a wire and risk deforming or dropping it or leaving your fingerprints on the clay. Make throwing more enjoyable by eliminating the wiring off step altogether!
  • SAFE: Insert tab is wide enough to prevent fingers from getting caught while throwing on the wheel.
  • DURABLE: The inserts are made out of Masonite and the outer bat is made out of a water resistant, durable exterior-grade wood material. This bat system is designed to accommodate swelling from exposure to water, so unlike other bat systems the inserts should still fit into your adapter use after use.

The media could not be loaded. Love this bat system used it for the first time it made the process so much more efficient. If did jiggle a little when I was centering my clay but overall highly recommend!

  • Great for New Potters
Number of Items: 6
I recently started to try my hand in throwing pottery. When I was first learning I was ruining half my pieces trying to get them off the bat or wheel head. This allows me to take them off without disturbing the shape of the piece until they're hardened up a bit. After using them for a few months, the inserts start to warp a bit from being wet regularly. It's not a huge pain but if I were to order again I would get a set that was a different material. That being said, these were a great price and perfect for learning. ... show more

  • Affordable and gets the job done
Number of Items: 6
I have a wheel without bat pins. I bought this bat system because the “mother bat” has a flat bottom side, making it possible to attach it to my wheel with a clay pad. This has worked exactly as I had hoped. I have seen other reviews saying the bat inserts are loose and wobbly. Mine are actually quite tight. I think this might be because the mother bat has absorbed moisture from the clay pad I use and has therefore expanded. The mother bat is much more porous and absorbent than the inserts. Overall, I am very pleased with this system. The inserts are too small to accommodate large pottery pieces, but that is to be expected. They are perfect for mugs and small bowls. ... show more

  • Bat inserts Good / Bat holder mehhh
Number of Items: 6
I bought this a few weeks ago and here are the pros and cons about the product. Cons: the actual bat holder is starting to warp. the worst part is that it is bowing in a way that its basically rocking on the wheel making it really tough to do anything (center, throw, lift, etc). I recommend that the manufacture make it so that both sides can accept an insert so that if one side bows you can flip it around and hopefully flatten in out again while you keep using it on the wheel. The bat itself is very thick and can easily put another insert slot on the other side perhaps even a circular insert v. a square one. Con: inserts aren't as snug as id like them to be, this causes the inserts to shift slightly which at a fast speed can throw off your center. Temporary fixes are filling the gaps with clay which only really fixes the problem temporarily. Pros: Inserts allow you to save space on the drying shelf by not having to put a whole bat on there. Inserts are fairly cheap. Recommend you use a screwdriver to pry out the bat when you're ready to take it off the wheel. all in all i spent the money to buy the system and a additional 6 inserts but now that the actual bat holder is warping they are pretty much useless. If your using low speed and maybe can sandwich the bat between two heavy flat objects to dry to prevent warping, its great other wise the additional maintenance is really a downside to the product. ... show more

  • Wiggles, unusable
Number of Items: 6
Purchased but I've been on a job making test tiles for over a month so I finally sat down to use my new bat and the inserts fit very loosely into the holder. Wiggles ALOT while throwing. Totally unusable. Very disappointing. Tried soaking in water hoping swelling would make it fit better but it doesn't. ... show more

  • Will definitely swell and warp.
Number of Items: 6
It does jiggle, as mentioned in other reviews, but that isn't the real issue. Jiggling is practically inevitable with any insert-style bat systems and is easily overcome. The real issue is the material itself. It isn't moisture resistant. After one use, the base bat warped. And I wiped it clean and dried it with a heat gun and sat a heavy plaster cast on top of it, all on a perfectly level table, to prevent warping in storage. Didn't work. I should also mention that I painted it with water resistant polyurethane and let it totally dry before I ever used it on the wheel. It still warped after one use. It didn't warp before use on the wheel. It warped after the wheel. It's basically MDF that's been dunked in something, but that something it's cohesive enough to prevent moisture absorption even with additional precautions taken. Now, on to the inserts. They did not warp. Instead, they swelled around the edges, as hardboard does when it absorbs water. Overall, nice design with centered inserts, but the materials aren't manufactured for this application. I strongly recommend looking for a better system elsewhere or making your bats from treated hardboard (which is what I ended up doing). ... show more
