Before using this model I tried the one before it and it was good but there were a couple issues with it so I tried other razors, after a couple months I saw it was updated and all of my gripes were solved. Here is what I love about this blade holder: - Already set for an exposed blade which I think is crucial for crisp line ups - Great weight, the whole thing is made of metal which is matte. For the price, can’t be beat. A similarly priced solid steel razor wouldn’t cut an onion, been there done that. Unless you’re a whetstone/ stropping ninja these blades are the way to go. Light but well constructed. My one almost disappointment was when I went to put the blade in, it stuck out further than it should. Took me ten minutes to realize you snap these blades in half to get a 1.5 mm exposure. There’s a millennial for you. Still, considering that will be these blades biggest market most likely, some instructions, on the box, on a slip, or a good how to video would have been appreciated. I just looked at the thing for a while and was like ohhhhhh. So yeah, it shaved the back of a finger like cake, can only assume it will do the same thing on my beard. I’m extremely happy with this product. I read the reviews before purchasing & I knew I had to be careful when using it because if it’s not used properly you can cut yourself. Before buying this product I was using an eyebrow shaver to remove the hair just below my Locs & it worked but not like this product....I’m smooth like a babies bottom :) ... show more

As a Licensed Master Barber I am proud to say that this product will not let you down. I've come across my fair share of Safety Razors and this one is made with exceptional quality. I've met the guy that made the razor his name is Will and he loves the barbering industry and gave me some gems to help me or anyone else that is in it. One thing I noticed and loved about this blade is that is exposes the razor blade that you lock in so you have precision in the area that you shave. Unlike other razors it doesn't cover up the razor blade and makes shaving a little awkward. I could go on and on about this product and how it outshines so many others. A few years ago, I bought a Parker SRW and started wet shaving. Lining up my beard and hairline was decent, but I would often mess up my beard line using the SRW because it was difficult to see the blade. Recently, I saw a relative use a shavette with the blade exposed and lining up was much more crisp because it was easier to see exactly where the blade was resting with his shavette compared to my Parker SRW. After a few searches, I found this shavette with the exposed blade. I've only used it once so far and I'm impressed on how this shavette allows me to line up my beard and hairline much closer, crisper, and easier than my SRW. Pros: - ability to use any standard razor blade (snapped in half) - about 1.5mm blade exposure - loading the blade is similar to how one would load the blade in a Parker SRW/SRB/SR1 - lining up beards or hairlines with greater precision due to ability to see the blade better - the shavette is black and gold with a logo of a black widow; looks great as is - Derby blades included Cons: - learning curve; I don't recommend this shavette for beginners based on the aggressive blade exposure - does not come with a carrying case ... show more

    • Check the blade retainer prongs before loading-it makes a HUGE difference

Spend the extra few bucks and get the version that has a rotating arm over where the blade is mounted; this model has a slider that is tricky to load a blade into. No issues with rivet joining handle and blade arm. Easier to use than i though a staight razor would be, once the blade was mounted. UPDATE 12/30/21: I reviewed the slide shank during my last blade change and found that the retaining prongs weren't bent out enough from the slide shank to allow the blade to completely seat to the point where the blade rests on the prongs and studs. I was able to use a small screwdriver to push these out just enough for the black to seat correctly. The blade doesn't move now; it also is less exposed, less than the 1.5mm listed for the products. It's MUCH easier to use now and the nicks and cuts are greatly reduced when the blade is seated properly. ... show more

I waited a long time ( almost a year) to review this item becuase some reviews said it would break. I have been using it every time I shave for nearly a year and its in great shape. Nothing loosened or broke. The finish colors haven't changed at all. I use it to touch up areas after I shave for clean straight lines that you cant get with a safety razor. It works great as long as you pair it with a good blade. I break the astra platinums that I use in my safety razor. You have to break a double edge blade in 2 or buy special blades for this. I would absolutely buy this again. CATION..... there is a technique to using these. They will cut you bad! Not the razors fault its your lack of technique. It took me a while to get the hang of it. After a nice hot shower you will irritate your skin much less. Watch a barbor use one and be carefull. You'll get the hang of it in no time. ... show more

I'm not a barber and this is my first attempt at using a straight razor. It is easy to use and the instruction that come with it are very helpful for a beginner. Of course you have to go slow or you will wind up looking like Edward Scissor hands. The balance and quality of the product are great. I purchase extra razors but the blackwidow comes with a package of 10 razor that you break in half to use. It does a wonderful job and my face has never been smother, not like my old electric razors I've used for years. ... show more
