When everything shut down for Covid, I was glad that we had equipment at home to continue our workouts. The shutdown did force me to acknowledge the weak areas in our home gym. While we had weights and cardio covered, we didn't have a good surface that was conducive to stretching and practicing BJJ techniques when we couldn't go to class. I set out to find a solution that would produce an acceptable surface on a concrete basement floor. I looked at many alternatives and had settled on a huge supplier of MMA mats. The one I honed in on would roll up out of the way when not in use. I started looking for the least expensive place to purchase the mats and landed at Amazon. What I found is that those mats are significantly more expensive for less coverage and that they never go on sale. Since I was shopping Amazon at this point I looked for alternatives and found these. After reading the reviews I ended up ordering 3 mats, which gave us a 10x12 area for about $250 less that what I had been shopping for. These mats seem very sturdy and easily fold out of the way. The velcro appears to be strong enough to hold the mats tightly together while we roll around on them and I don't think we will take them apart often enough to have this wear out. The padding is also thick enough so we do not have any issues using these directly on an epoxy coated concrete floor. The vinyl seems thick enough to be good for the long haul as well. In the end, we will use these several times a week for a little practice but the commercial mats that are more expensive were probably overkill. These mats came with a 2 year warranty so while I don't anticipate any issues with them, I will probably just replace them if something happens to them down the road. These are probably the best value out there in folding gym mats and they are working great for why we bought them so far. ... show more

I’m really impressed with the Extra Thick High Density Anti-Tear Gymnastics Gym Folding Mat. It’s exactly what I needed for my workouts. The thickness of the mat provides fantastic support and cushioning, making it comfortable to exercise on, even for high-impact routines. We bought this mat to cover our concrete basement floor so that our kids could wrestle and roughhouse safely. The mat is thick, durable, and comfortable. It is also easy to fold, unfold, and looks like it will be easy to clean. We will likely buy more to cover our entire play area in the basement.

My daughter is 10 and I wanted to get a mat for her to perform her gymnastics moves. Something good for her height and size. I spent a long time looking at all the sizes provided by multiple companies and reading reviews. This one was by far the best. For a kid her age, 10 feet long and 4 feet wide is perfect. It is long enough for her to do her moves but not too narrow either like 3-foot-wide mats. Being 2 inches thick is perfect as well because it provides just the right amount of cushion. Plus, it has handles once folded up to be carried away. Best bang for your buck. Very durable. Not too heavy to make you struggle but not too light making worry if it won't stay in one place. When my daughter gets older and bigger, I would get a longer mat but this is perfect for a kid between 7 and 12 who is in the 4-to-5-foot range. If your kid is 5'6" and above, I would get a longer mat but make sure it is still at least 4 feet wide. ... show more

I have not yet had a full on sparring session on this mat (Jiu Jitsu) but I did some shrimping and warm up stuff without my GI and it seems like it's made well. I bought 2 of these mats to use together for Jiu Jitsu. I intended to use 2 of these mats to put together, creating an 8' x 10' space for technique practice with my brother and a friend. I didn't expect the mats to actually feel this good. As I said, I haven't used them to have an actual roll yet but they feel almost like the mats that are used in the gym that I use to train. Both of these mats laid out on the floor in my living room seem to be enough space for 2 people to roll (not 2 pairs of people). I'm impressed with the quality of the foam. It is firm enough to keep from sinking (even when standing on the mat on 1 foot as a 160 lb person) and feeling the floor, yet soft enough that it doesn't hurt the bony prominence's of my body like my knees, elbows, and shoulder blades. The velcro that is used holds tight when using more than 1 of the mats put together. I have carpet under these mats and the side of the mat that doesn't have another mat attached, has velcro that is in contact with the floor underneath and holds the mats in place. Not sure how these mats would be in hardwood. The mats fold up quite nicely and when folded, they have handles to carry which is nice if your are going to be setting them up tucking them away whenever you want to use them. Great product IMO. If taken care of and not abused, I would think these would last years. ... show more
