  • My favorite in the Super Snacks line
Style: Frustration Free
This is my favorite of the super snacks dolls because it is more versatile than the others since it is safe to put in the water. We have a lot of fun feeding this doll the solid doll food in all sorts of different shapes. It was a cool idea to make the food play doh because kids love to make food out of that stuff anyway, and now they can actually feed it to their dolls. We also feed this doll all sorts of dry foods like crackers, crushed freeze-dried yogurt bites, dry cereal, uncooked beans and rice, and so on. We even give her sugar in a baby bottle and pretend it’s milk. We just had to cut a larger hole in the nipple so that the sugar would pour out into her mouth. Surprisingly enough, the diaper flap is actually tight enough to hold in pouter like that until you open it. The only thing it doesn’t hold in is liquid. I noticed a customer question asking if this doll can eat the baby alive pouter food, and though technically the instructions say not to give the doll any other foods besides baby alive solid doll food, we have been pretty successful feeding her liquids. There are just a few things to keep in mind if you want to try this: —First of all, this is going against the instructions, so there could be some sort of risk I am unaware of yet. Keep that in mind if you try this. —Put a diaper on over the plastic one because it won’t hold in liquids. I recommend preemie diapers instead of the doll diapers because they hold more liquid and reach further up the doll’s back. This is important because she might leak from her back when you feed her liquids, and preemie diapers tend to catch most, if not all of that. —If you just give the doll water or something nearly as thin, like those doll drink recipes you can find on YouTube, then the doll functions very much like a drink and wet doll, and all of it goes into the disposable diaper that you put on over the plastic one. But if you give her thicker stuff, like the baby alive pouter food you mix with water, then some of it will go into the diaper, and some of it will stay inside the doll, so you will have to take her to the sink or hold her over a bowl or something and open the plastic diaper flap to empty out the rest of it. It’s kind of weird, but you can tell your kid that when you feed the baby lots of liquids, it makes her pee a lot, so she needs a diaper cover (the disposable diaper you put over the plastic one) because her regular diaper will leak otherwise. You can even explain that real babies sometimes have the same problem, so they might need diaper covers too. —Don’t give the doll more than two ounces of liquid at a time, otherwise it might get into other parts of her body and come out her drain holes, especially her feet. Since this doll is designed to be submerged in water, I haven’t been too concerned about whatever we feed her getting into her limbs and head because it can be rinsed out later by simply giving her a bath. But it’s a bit messy to pick up your doll to change her diaper and have her last meal start gushing out her feet. —Since it is so easy for liquids to get inside the doll’s limbs and head, be mindful of what you feed her. If you give her pouter, make sure it dissolves in water, or it might clog her drain holes. We accidentally did that with our first sunshine snacks doll after feeding her colored play sand, and we had to throw her away because the water couldn’t drain, and it rotted inside of her. We have since bought another one and never fed her that sand, and we haven’t had a problem like that again. Also, you probably want to avoid stuff that can rot quickly and won’t rinse easily, such as greasy or sticky foods like cheese sauce. We have given this doll real stage 1 baby food, however, and that cleaned out just fine. Aside from being able to feed this doll all kinds of different things, we have also had a lot of fun dressing her up, doing her hair, and giving her baths. We bought real baby shampoo to wash her hair with, and it seems to work great. Her hair seems to be a lot more durable than other baby alive dolls where you can’t even wash the hair without damaging it. We are still careful with her hair though, and only use baby alive combs to brush it. Real ponytails and clips work well too if you are gentle. Overall, we really like the versatility that was created from making this doll able to go in the water. It made it possible for us to actually feed her both liquids and solids without fear of water getting stuck inside of her and molding. Being able to give her a bath and clean out whatever we feed her is really great. The only thing I wish was different is that I wish they had designed the doll with either an air-tight diaper flap or a hole in her bottom instead of a plastic diaper flap so that she could eat liquids more easily. It could’ve been REALLY cool, and my daughter would’ve been in love. But as it is, she loves this doll, and my husband and I have used it to teach her countless things about babies, as well as math, science, fine motor skills, large motor skills, and social/emotional skills just in preparing food, feeding the doll, changing her diaper, bathing her, and taking her out and about. So because of that, I really appreciate this doll, and when you use it the way Hasbro says to in the instructions, it works perfectly. So though I wish it was more perfect, it still is a great toy, and one of my favorite baby alive dolls. ... show more
