  • We hatched Muscovy ducks
We could have hatched eggs from our many chickens, but for our first ever attempt at using an incubator my wife decided to try Muscovy ducks. She did her research and learned that this is one of the most difficult breeds to incubate, but we followed the recommendations and managed to successfully hatch six out of 15 eggs. Two of the eggs we removed early on when they failed to show any signs of growth, and the last seven we gave a few days at the end before we gave up on them. We think the last ones didn't hatch because we may have opened the incubator too often to check on the hatched ducklings, and leaving the ducklings in with the unhatched eggs may have been an issue too. Next time we do this we'll get a second incubator to move the hatchlings into. The incubator shipped in a styrofoam packing; we left that on to add to the incubator's insullation. The temperature gauge seems to be a bit inaccurate. You can calibrate it, but we put a secondary thermometer in with the eggs which proved it never calibrated correctly. We could never really get the incubator as hot as we wanted. 99.5 degrees is recommended for hatching Muscovies, but the incubator seemed to struggle to get that hot, no matter how many times we tried to increase the temperature. Humidity maintenance is assisted by an external water feeder that's supposed to slowly drain into the incubator, but because we kept the incubator in the styrofoam packing it was raised a bit higher than the water feeder, which interfered with its gravity flow. In retrospect we should have raised the waterer on a block of wood or something, but we ended up manually adding water. The incubator has a light for candling the eggs which was a big help in monitoring growth. The automatic egg turner was helpful too, but we marked opposite sides of the eggs with an X and an O so that we could be sure they were getting turned. Aside from the thermometer not wanting to calibrate, it's an okay incubator. ... show more

  • Water is key.
This is the best incubator I have used. Having all the features - auto egg rolling, temperature control, and the water for humidity control - is super critical where I live. We have lots of fluffy feathery friends from this guy!

  • Accurate and Functional
The instructions are clear and easy to follow. The gauges are accurate, and all of the materials are high-quality. I really like how I add humidity from outside of the chamber. That is a really cool feature. But, most importantly, the chicks hatched, and that is pretty much all you can hope for. Clean up after everyone hatched was also very easy. ... show more

  • 21 eggs in, ZERO chicks out!
I was so excited to get the eggs started in the incubators! I put 21 green eggs in this incubator and 12 in a smaller incubator that I was also testing. Up until a few days before the hatch date, I had 15 eggs showing promise and development, then I put them into "lockdown". Even though I added more water to up the humidity inside, the gauge never changed from 65%! Temperature read 99-100 degrees the entire 24 days, however, when I checked the incubator at day 22, half of it was blowing ice cold air and had killed every single chick/egg growing! I did not have much luck with the other incubator either, but I did have 2 chicks hatch out of the 12 brown eggs I put in that one. My overall hatch rate ended up being 6%, if I separate by incubator, the "successful" hatch was at a 17%..this incubator had a 0% hatch rate. Three weeks of hard work, watching over these potential babies only to have them all killed shortly before hatch is so disheartening! I am not including photos of the dead chicks, I am however putting a photo of the incubator. ... show more

  • the 4H kids love it
We have a 4H group with kids from 6-9 years old and we decided to let them hatch chicken eggs . We used this 20 egg incubator and had a fairly good success. 16 eggs hatched. It has an automatic turner a convient water bottle that allows you to add moisture without opening the incubator. We are very happy with this and will most likely try hatching ducks next. ... show more

  • Instructions are useless, smells like burnt plastic and leaks
The media could not be loaded. I really wanted to like this set and it seemed like it would have been a cool projects. Unfortunately m, everything about this will require some sort of fix or manual calibration through trial and error. First, it includes all these red pieces that are not referenced in the instructions. I have no idea what they are. Second, the instructions are beyond unclear or flat out wrong. It does not explain what the settings are so if you goto AL which is alarm low, the range you can set is 0-10 which I am assuming is the alarm triggers when it goes this setting below your temp? In calibration, does the negative numbers mean actual is that many degrees less than actual or vice versa? Minimum temp you can set is 86 degrees. On top of that, when you turn this unit on, it heats up, but it smells like burnt plastic. Not very assuring. The water bottle included can be twisted on infinitely and was not properly threaded to secure it into position. You have to twist it and feel just a slight resistance and guess where it’s the best secure. Overall, there’s going to be hours of testing and calibrating side by side with a different thermometer to make sure measurements are correct because as is, I think all the settings are unreliable and unclear. ... show more
