Ok, I was not expecting such a CLEAR PICTURE and great sound from this little thing!! I am buying another for my Mom's new house for her basement. In that space a 57in TV looks small, this projector is the answer! I Love it!

  • Great projector for Fun or Business
Color: Grey
I had another projector about 15 years ago, so I was excited to try a new model. The Hippus has been a really fun reintroduction into projection. I was hoping to seamlessly connect my Google Pixel to project its screen, but unfortunately it's not easily compatible. It might be possible, but I haven't found out how. I think the Pixel phone is just a little proprietary, maybe. My Samsung tablet connected right away, however, easy as can be. The remote and accessories that come with the projector are very nice. The remote feels a little light, but not fragile. It was responsive, even facing it away from the projector unit itself toward the projected image. Something I thought was really cool was the auto-focus feature; by pressing the focus button, the projector will put up a checkerboard image, and use its own front-facing camera to adjust focus and keystone angle as best as it can from its position. It also has a digital adjustment for the picture in its menu. The speakers built into it are serviceable; I had it near my bed projecting onto the ceiling for fun, and the sound was alright. Nothing spectacular or awful, but it's got a headphone port for a nice set of headphones or a more capable speaker setup. It's got a great little manual with it; nice and detailed, and very well translated. It's very legible and there are only small indications here or there that it's a translation from the original manual. As far as negatives, it's a little too new to see anything wrong with it. If it's like my old projector, someday the bulb will expire, and it might not be easy to replace. The controller seems to be the only way to control the menu in the projector, but it does have USB ports on the side, it might accept a keyboard input. Another downside is that streaming services like Hulu might not work when streamed through the phone or tablet; that's not the projector's fault, it's more likely their policies. The instruction manual helpfully suggests something like a Roku or Chromecast plugged directly into it to be able to project apps like that. Overall, the Hippus is a great little projector for fun or business. It's nice and compact, but has a decent featureset and picture. The only downsides are negligible, or not really the projector's fault. ... show more

  • Most bang for your buck, for real!!
Color: Grey
The media could not be loaded. Before finding this projector through Amazon Vine I had been looking into projectors for awhile and actually purchased a $600 KJM. There are so many different solutions available for every price range it’s hard to know which one to get and how much to break the bank; so I took this chance to compare the two projectors given that this HIPPUS is less than half the price and advertises some similarities. I am leaving this review to help others in a similar situation that don’t know what qualities the different budget brackets can offer you. PROJECTOR SETUP: The HIPPUS projector came nicely packaged, it feels well built, and even has a lens cover which the more expensive KJM surprisingly left out. I found that the stand it is mounted on was extremely helpful because it allowed me to more easily adjust the angle of the projection as opposed to a standard footed projector. This, coupled with the keystone/corner correction function, works FANTASTICALLY when fine tuning the size and shape of the projection when your setup area is not optimal. This is a flexibility my KJM unfortunately struggles with. The HIPPUS works great with my firestick plugged in and seamlessly connected to my two bluetooth speakers to stream anything I wanted (the built-in speaker is not the best, it can get loud but sounds flat). I also don’t recommend streaming video wirelessly from your phone using airplay or android chromecast because the audio always ends up out of sync. The projection size can be adjusted digitally in the settings as well as physically by moving the projector closer or further away. I found, in my case, the sweet spots to be anywhere from 8-15 feet away for optimal image quality to size. (Side note: If you’re going to be using the projector in an area where the screen and/or projector may shake/vibrate a little, I HIGHLY recommend disabling auto keystone and auto focus as these two will constantly keep adjusting your projection with the slightest movements and a few times it even reset my corner corrections completely). IMAGE QUALITY: It should be no surprise that even though both the HIPPUS and my KJM boast an impressive 4k supported 1080p native image quality that there are still significant differences. The HIPPUS does seem to have trouble with maintaining perfect clarity with a uniform focus across the entire screen. This is true with multiple different projection orientations, sizes, and distances. However, I found this to be only a minor shortcoming when watching shows/movies because I was less focused on every single aspect of the image. I only really ever noticed this when there was text on screen, you can definitely see it start to blur out towards the corners of the projection. I was extremely impressed with the color vibrance/balancing and gradients the HIPPUS had to offer. It held up its own against my KJM when both projectors were in a darkened room with minimal light pollution. The major difference comes when comparing the two in a lightened room with lots of external light. The HIPPUS advertises 500 ANSI as opposed to my KJM’s 1500 ANSI. Even though both of these projectors still struggle in a lighted environment, the HIPPUS is nearly unseeable with daylight mixed in and washed out at best. FINAL THOUGHTS: I was EXTREMELY surprised by what the HIPPUS had to offer at this price (currently 20% off at $199.99). It is not perfect, but neither is my $600 KJM. I think the HIPPUS excels at flexibility and mobility. It is super light, super easy and quick to set up, and super adjustable. I was able to project images at some crazy angles using the corner correction and still maintain decent image quality. If you are not replacing your tv permanently, and are just someone looking for something that you can bust out when you have some friends over to watch your favorite sport’s tournament game (in a darkened room), or want to go watch a movie outside on a nice summer night, this HIPPUS is a great mobile projector just for that. ... show more
