Needed a cheap OBD scanner that I could keep in the car while I monitored when the car finished all the EVAP system checks so I could go get my state inspection. Autel is a known good aftermarket brand. Easy to use and read. This is not a bi-directional scan tool so its not supposed to be able to do a ton of diagnostics. Code reader, freeze frame data, and system monitor checks. What more could you ask for at this price.

This device is a must have! Self sufficiency is power. I have an exotic foreign vehicle and the OBD2 scanner works perfectly. I don’t have time to go to the dealer or wait on anyone. I detected the issue, cleared the check engine light - since I know it’s safe to drive temporarily until I get to the dealership. This tool is great for everyone - especially women and first time car owners. It will save you money and time because you know exactly what the issue is that needs repairing. For the price, this is a great scanner. I have a 2005 Jeep Cherokee that has a lot of quirks. I love not having a car payment, so I am hoping to keep driving this vehicle for as long as possible. Recently, my husband’s vehicle needed a jump, so we used the Jeep (which has a new battery), and immediately I got a check engine light. The Jeep had just been at the shop, so I assumed the jump had triggered an electrical code. I had a different brand code reader that I had purchased a few years back. That code reader showed two codes which were seemingly unrelated and hard to believe would occur simultaneously. That reader would not clear the codes, so after an internet search and seeing Autel highly recommended, I purchased this inexpensive unit. As a few other reviews mention, there is no instruction manual included. There is a QR code, but that only takes you to the Autel website, and lol, this product isn’t even on their website, so no manual or instructions. I did find a helpful YouTube video which walks through the process of using this and clearing codes. After watching that video, I was able to quickly find the code causing the check engine. Since the code shown related to a low voltage actually made sense based on using the vehicle to jump another car, I felt comfortable erasing the code to see if it comes back. This code reader did erase the code and in starting the vehicle, there is no longer a check engine light, woohoo. If there were instructions included or an actual website to reference, I would definitely give this 5 stars.

I bought one since my mechanic friend recommended it. Easy to use. Good price. And you can zero out old codes if you need to. Great for getting your own diagnosis and not having to stop at Auto Zone or going to a shop.

The media could not be loaded. Works well with my 2007 Prius in detecting the hybrid battery pack Data Trouble Code (DTC), P0A80. I replaced my original hybrid battery with the Green Bean refub hybrid battery. As one would expect, the replacement batteries they use are a Frankenstein battery (a whole battery composed with used and aged battery cells). Since May of 2021 (Sept 2023 at time of review), Green Bean has had to come out to replace the battery three times, and that’s not to consider the original replacement of the original. The good: Green Bean’s lifetime warranty, price, they take phone calls on Sundays, quick turn around from time of call to time of repair, they come to your location, never any hassles, except…….they absolutely require a photo of the DTC of P0A80 “replace hybrid battery”. The bad: expect to use the warranty on their batteries, inconvenience of your vehicle being down for a few days. Auto Zone, O’Reilly, etc have Innova OBD2 readers and they just don’t work for my 2007 Prius. Sure, I can drive all the way to the dealership, wait a few hours, and pay $170 for them to diagnose the issue, but why would I do that when I have this $20 Autel code reader that is small and so simple to use like this one? The device is pretty straightforward to use. The instructions are online and downloadable; however, Autel’s website does not make it easy to find the manual, and I was unsuccessful in getting telephonic customer support. Their automated answering service gives the caller the option of a call back, but they don’t unfortunately. Anyway, to get the manual, just do a web search for your specific OBD2 code reader.
