  • Windows Map Drive Copy Speed SLOW
Color: 2 Bay
Yes I know, Windows. However the copy speed when mapping a drive and using Windows Explorer should not be Rip Van Winkle SLOW. Will mess with it a bit and see if I can tweak something. But if looking for a simple NAS device to be able to drag and drop files easily from Windows based clients, so far this is NOT the one....... ... show more

  • Very nice NAS for a very nice price
Color: 2 Bay
My NAS is only about 1 day old, so I can't speak as to how this will hold up in the long run, but I am very impressed so far. I stuck in 2 3TB Hitachi drives and it took about 18 hours to finishing sync'ing. I've installed Plex and Subsonic through their App store and copied all my old media from my old external drives connected to my RPi3, and within 24 hours of unboxing this I'm already up and running again. The 3 year warranty is nice too, although I hope I never need to use it. But 3 years on a NAS is the best I've seen, most others are only 2. If you're looking for an inexpensive NAS to get you some fault-tolerant storage, this one from Asus seems like the cream of the crop. The *only* gripe I have so far is that I don't think I can expand the RAM in the NAS. 512 MB isn't very much, as Plex and Subsonic chew up half that even at idle. So if I ever want to integrate my Wyze cam local storage to save to the NAS down the road, I may run into some RAM problems. ... show more

  • Adequate, reliable NAS for stable use
Color: 4 Bay
This is an adequate NAS with loth of software features and few hardware features. If you are looking for a NAS that you can load up with drives and then only make software changes for the majority of the time, this is a great choice. PROS: BTRFS! Supports snapshots for your data! Super easy user interface with almost all of the advanced features that you will find in higher end ASUSTOR devices. S.M.A.R.T. monitoring. Tool-less install. CONS: adding or changing drives is a hassle. only one ethernet port. not enough RAM to run very many programs. No text display on the device. For a home user or budget small business user, this is a great NAS to use. With an easy to use web interface, setting up users and shares is super simple. You can connect it to active directory. Because you can create multiple shared directories, you can segment the NAS into different areas so that, as long as you set up users and access properly, you can keep the security levels of different shares from affecting each other. Set up a general purpose share, a backup area, and a highly restricted area to keep ransomware from taking all of your network shares while still keeping some accessible. Using BTRFS snapshots lets you roll back in the event of ransom! ... show more

  • Invisible on the Net
Color: 2 Bay
Well, I should have read the product description. When they say Home they mean Home. Tried repeatedly to set it up on a WAN basis and it is incapable of doing this. It is strictly an In-House LAN unit. The cell apps are OK, but impossible, as I have said for family members in other locals to locate the unit. None of the IP addresses, including the units WAN IP works. There is little or no tablet support. Google Apps has plenty of them on a cell, like AiFoto, but try to find them on a tablet. I had purchased this unit for use as a Private Cloud for my family, some of whom live either out of state, or out of country. Nope. It is invisible to them all. It is also very slow. I have a huge family photo album and tried to enter it and took hours. Even slower than uploading to Google Photos. All in all, very disappointed in ASUS for this unit. I would have expected more from them as they are a good company and that is one of the reasons that I bought it. It is cheesy at best, and I have returned it for a unit from another company. ... show more

  • Great product for a great price
Color: 2 Bay
Edit -- If you want to use the Plex server, I would recommend upgrading to a version with more than 512M or ram, most streams are very jerky I am using this device with two Seagate IronWolf 6TB HDD's. I get about 15 Megabytes per second transfer speed consistently with multiple connections, using the Plex server and the Surveillance Center while file transferring. The device does not seem to run hot, and there is still ~20% memory free when I check during normal to heavy loads. Setup was extremely easy and took ~15 minutes. This can be used as a network USB server as well which was a nice unexpected bonus. Installing apps works great with many options. The only downside that I have seen so far is that the Surveillance Center software does not have very good documentation for use. I am using some IP cameras that connect just fine using most other third party software, but Asustor's software keeps telling me that the username/password is invalid. To be fair, the cameras I am using are not officially supported by the software. ... show more

  • Nice NAS with horrible instructions
Color: AS1104T
The NAS works great and has some very nice features through installable apps. The instructions that come with the NAS are quite poor and the online information isn't much better. There are phone apps for setting up the NAS but they have 2 star ratings, I found it easier to use the web interface and a computer to set everything up. The 4 bay with RAID5 is quite fast for reading and writing, the bottle neck will be the network interface but the internal disk speed is very helpful if you're doing any video transcoding. I am primarily using this for backing up computers and paired with with Western Digital 4 TB RED drives. While they work, I discovered after the fact that there is an internal app for the IronWolf drives, which I believe used to keep their firmware up to date, had I known this I probably would have purchased the IronWolf drives. If not using this NAS for media streaming then I recommend turning media mode off. The media mode reserves half of the RAM for streaming and with it disabled and my normal usage, the RAM sits around 70% used. There are many features that I will most likely never use, such as setting up a VPN tunnel to access it from the internet, that just seems like too much of a risk to me but for people that really need to stream their home content from anywhere in the world it probably has value. ... show more
