  • UPDATE: CHANGE to 4 stars <<<Don't expect your device to be protected>>>
UPDATED - received my repaired laptop today in perfect working condition so changing my rating to 4 stars. They could do a little better job of updates but otherwise they repaired my Asus Zenbook and I am completeley satisfied!!! Original Review: I bought ASURION 4 Year Laptop Protection Plan ($1000 - $1249.99) for my Asus Zenbook and then it stopped charging 2 years after purchase. They had me send it in 11 days ago with the caveat "It will be fixed and returned to you in 5-7 days or your purchase price refunded" I have had several updates now saying same thing: Service request: 1695433572 ASUS COMPUTER LAPTOP Claim opened on May 01, 2023 Your claim is in progress. Your product repair requires additional parts. Unfortunately, the repair is going to take a bit longer than we originally expected. Rest assured that the parts have been ordered and we will keep you updated on our progress. I am starting a new remote project on Monday May 22nd and will need a new laptop, so guess I will be purchasing one, not knowing what Asurion is planning to do for my claim. I may eventually get my fixed laptop back and have a new one as well for $1500 out of my pocket I may get refunded for my laptop if they can't fix it I may just get shadow banned and not get my laptop or a refund No matter - a terrible experience and I am very unlikely to use Asurion again. This my 6th protection plan and first claim, and I am not at all satisfied with their product ... show more

  • Asurion Has Become Thoroughly Unhelpful and Incompetent
I have an Apple MacBook Pro that is still under an extended Asurion warranty. Both were purchased from Amazon. The insulation on the thinner cable of the AC adapter split through normal use, so I filed a claim with Asurion for a replacement adapter and cable. I was promised by an Asurion chat agent that a replacement adapter would arrive within five business days. 26 days have passed since I filed this claim (at least 17 business days, after subtracting MLK day), and the replacement has not yet arrived. Repeated contact with Asurion by phone and by chat has produced nothing from them other than the same requests repeated over and over (receipt, serial number, Amazon ASIN number, photo of the damage, etc.). After they eventually realize that I have already given them that information, they offer seemingly sincere apologies, more promises that the replacement adapter would arrive in another five business days, and promises of follow-up emails that I also never received. Asurion apparently no more values regular communication than it values competent assistance. Today is the fifth business day after the last such promise, and conceivably, the adapter could still arrive today. In the 26 days that have elapsed, the broken insulation of the cable led to the fraying and breaking of the braided metal inner cable sheath, and finally to the breaking of the cable’s electrical wiring, so no power could be conducted. For weeks now there has been no available power source for my MacBook, the battery has run out, and it has stopped working completely. This kind of delay, lack of communication, and incompetence is inexcusable, and frankly, somewhat perplexing, as Asurion successfully responded to a claim of mine regarding the same computer at the beginning of 2021. I do know that Asurion made massive layoffs in their workforce in July 2022; I suppose the current poor customer service quality is a holdover from that reorganization. If you are making a significant purchase on Amazon, and want the peace of mind of an extended warranty, know that you don’t have to buy Asurion just because it’s what Amazon offers with the product. Amazon also offers Allstate Protection Plans (aka Square Trade; also available separately from their own website) and SmartGuard, but they are not always in the same denominations or for the same lengths. Shop around. [First Edit - Thur., Feb. 2, 2023: The replacement AC adapter finally arrived yesterday, two days later than last promised and 28 days after my claim was made. It was not sent from Asurion but from an IT parts supplier in New Jersey. I plugged in my long-dead Mac, and it fully charged by the afternoon. I installed necessary OS updates that had been missed during the wait and began consolidating files that I had had to continue working on using another computer. As of today, I can say that the replacement adapter is continuing to work as it should.] [Second Edit - Thur., Feb. 9, 2023: Almost immediately I noticed that the MagSafe2 connector was not fitting snugly against my Mac the way the original had, but, well, it was charging, and I didn't want to deal with another 28 days with Asurion to get a proper adapter if I could avoid it. Unfortunately, on Tuesday, Feb. 7, the adapter stopped working altogether. On closer examination, I discovered that it was not an original Apple adapter - not even a refurbished Apple adapter (as was stated in the packing slip) - but a cheap knockoff replacement. While the original clearly named Apple in its labeling, and had the Apple logo embossed on the side, the replacement had neither. I borrowed a proper OEM adapter and determined that there was nothing wrong with the computer's MagSafe2 receptacle. So it's back to another interminable round with Asurion.] [Final Edit - Tue., Feb. 21, 2023: I filed a claim for the defective replacement adapter on Friday, Feb. 3 with a competent chat agent who said they would take care of it right away, and that a service rep would contact me by phone within two days. This did happen, and the rep listened carefully to my issue, hearing me out from the initial claim to the defective replacement adapter that I received on Feb. 1. The rep could not promise an OEM adapter, but he promised one that would work with my machine by the following week. Further, he followed that promise up with a personal email. By the next Tuesday, I had received - from Asurion - a refurbished OEM adapter which is still working. Additionally, on the day after, I received an additional adapter from the IT parts supplier in New Jersey! It is not OEM, but another Chinese non-Apple adapter, but It seems to be working as well, and I am using it as a fresh adapter for my 2nd MacBook Pro. So eventually Asurion did the right thing, but it took over a month. ... show more

  • Best $200 expense
Thankfully I had purchased this laptop protection. Six months after I bought my Samsung, my kid was playing around me, and by accident, I sat (!) on the laptop (it was left on the sofa). I know! The whole thing with Asurion was a swift process: I chatted with a rep on their website; they supplied the claim #, and I received the shipping packaging and sent the item and in less than two weeks from the accident day, had the price of the laptop refunded (they say they will try to repair it first and if cannot - refund). Recommend the service. ... show more

  • Worth the money!
I bought the 4 year protection plan for my Microsoft Surface, and when the battery expanded causing separation and other issues, they evaluated it and refunded my money within a couple days, since it wasn't repairable. This was about 3 years in.

  • Good to have
Thankfully I got this. Even though I was comparing the cost with a trip to a local repair shop. It turns out, I’m glad I got this. They were there with their tech people to guide me through some settings that didn’t work, and make them functional. This saved me much time and stress. Tech was friendly and knowledgeable. ... show more
