These shoes were comfortable right out of the box. I had to size up to an 8 Wide, but once I got the right size, I was so happy! Years ago when I trained for and walked the Susan Komen 3Day Walk for Breast Cancer my 8 woman team went into Atlanta and were individually fitted for shoes. Asics was the brand recommended for my gait, foot specifications, support requirements and toe cap. These are, once again, Asics is the perfect shoe for me. The first time I took this new pair out of the box I worked out, then walked 4.5 miles right after. Total support, zero discomfort, heel holds the foot in place. I have had many foot surgeries so need a toe cap that gives my toes room, and this shoe checks of every single box on my "must have" list. A shoe like Nike is too tapered in the toe for me (great looking, however!), other brands are too loose in the heel. Great price. Soft but strudy. Comes in half sizes. Arch support is very good. Plenty room at the toes..these shoes do not hurt my feet at all.. would definitely buy again.

I have been wearing Asics for many years, and have worn the wide width Gel Ventures for several years now. However the Gel Venture 8 do not measure up to the Gel Venture 7 and earlier. The wide width is not as wide as it use to be. My normal 8.5 Wide was too snug in width. I tried a half size up but that was way too long. Both pairs were returned. Very disappointed. I walk A LOT and heavily rely on my Asics walking shoes. Now I’ll have to find a new style, maybe a new brand. UPDATE: For those of you who had the same "too narrow" experience with the Gel Venture 8 that I had, I recommend you try the Gel Venture 9. In my quest to find a shoe that works for me, I decided to try the Gel Venture 9, and found my normal size of 8.5 Wide fits much like the earlier versions of the Gel Ventures, maybe even a bit extra width and length. ... show more
