  • The carrier dropped it, Amazon made it right
This is heavy. It’s awesome. The carrier dropped it off the truck and it got bent. That’s not the manufacturer or the sellers fault. I intend to use it as an actual brush guard, so it’s not going to be beautiful in a couple months anyway. But at least I wanted it straight. The manufacturer, or Amazon, one or the other extended a substantial discount, and I put it on my jeep and I am satisfied. I would recommend this purchase. But the seller needs to wrap this thing up in more than a cardboard box with quarter inch padding. Or, plan on fixing more orders because carriers these days are overwhelmed and don’t really care. And you can’t “un-drop” something that is bent. ... show more

  • tough grill guard (and yes, poor instructions)
As everyone else has said, this is a pain to install. The instructions were confusing. (At a minimum, go to the Aries website and find the updated instructions with grayscale pictures. The paper instructions are photocopied in black and white, and I couldn't make out anything.) It didn't come with the correct rod bolt for 2012+ JKUs. It was short two regular hex bolts. In the end, I gave up on following the instructions exactly, and I assembled it in a way that made sense. After all, it shouldn't be that hard. It's just two brackets on each side, and the guard bolts onto them. So 1/5 stars for installation. (In case you're wondering about whether you should just take it to a shop to have it installed: no, don't waste the money. It's a DIY installation as long as you have basic tools and enough patience.) But once it's installed, it's a solid grill guard, built of heavy steel, bolted onto the frame. It covers most of the front end. If you hit a deer or bicyclist or hidden tree stump, the frame of your Jeep will take the impact, not the radiator and water pump and lights. 4/5 or 5/5 stars for being a grill guard, which is what matters in the long run, after you spend a few frustrating hours getting it installed. ... show more

  • Very Poor Design - Tight Fit 2012 Jeep Wrangler Altitude Edition
I will say this does look good however, there are so many changes they could make to not only install this easier but make the finish look a little better. First of all there, is VERY little room to work where you mount both the lower and upper brackets. Secondly, you are required to cut numerous factory trim pieces to accommodate these mounts (Bumper cover and Spash Shield with no "template" to use they just tell you do it). And these trim pieces are very thick plastic so even with a hot knife and dremel tool and drill you are going to struggle. Looking it over I could have easily seen where they could having included a nice matching metal piece to replace at least the bumper cover and further strengthen the grille guard and save you from the cutting. Even if costs $50 more. Finally, once you get it all mounted and begin starting to put the grille back on (you know the one you are "Guarding") good luck getting it in w/o scratching it. The upper mounts are so close to the grille you basically have to wedge it behind, close your eyes give it a shove down and inward and hope for the best. I have installed numerous grille guards from other companies which I can't name or Amazon won't post which are same/better quality and by far require less time/effort and modifications to your factory parts. I called the factory b/c for my 2012 it says I should have a 10mm "rod bolt" my kit only came with a 8mm "rod bolt". I asked the person at "tech support" if would fit he said gee I don't know why don't you try it tomorrow and call me back if not. I got it to fit but nice tech support. Hindsight being 20/20 I would have probably put the money towards an entire bumper replacement. ... show more

  • Good, solid grille guard for my 2007 JK
Husband just received his grille guard and it looks great! We were hesitant to order when I heard how hard it was to install and parts might be missing, but I really liked the looks and decided to go ahead. The instructions are a little vague, but you do not need them. The bottom and top supports are stamped for driver and passenger side and all the hardware was there. The guard arrived in a cardboard box with tons of protective foam around it. No scratches or dents found. The install was very straightforward and he did not need a second person. Took less than 2 hours and I am very impressed with the solid feel and looks. The only wrinkle in the install is where you need to cut into the top and bottom plastic "guards". He had removed his a while ago and did not need to mess with that step. ... show more

  • instructions
My recommendation is put the instructions in the trash, they are not good, it took me about 3 hrs to do the job and you will make one or maybe 2 trips to Lowe's or home depot for sure. You will need to replace the lower left bracket bolt for a longer one ( 1.5 '' longer)unless you want to waist time fishing for the opening of the vehicle frame and grill bracket, I gave up after 1/2 hrs, got the longer bold and it worked in less that 30 seconds. If you are not a handy person the installation can take you hours and I had installed many grill guards in the past. It looks great but it did came w minor damage. Box was damaged very bad when it got to my home. UPS needs to be more careful. ... show more

  • Second Time came with no damage
First part had been dropped and bent very bad. Return was accepted with no issue, but Amazon also paid for the packaging to be sent back. That was impressive because the original package was just a bunch of cardboard and tape. The instructions are only a guide because they are not possible to follow. It is impossible to tighten the bolts correctly when the protective skirts are in place. It took two guys and two days to get it right. This guard is as good as I could find anywhere. I have a Jeep wrangler 2011 that this was put on. Looks very good. I also own a 1998 Jeep Cherokee with a different company guard that cost quite a bit more. I can't see any difference in the metal or quality. Good value, but lousy installation directions. ... show more
