Description

The world’s most renowned ukulele string maker introduces new Nylgut strings and is Aquila’s first product to be developed in house to be its own proprietary design. Nylgut strings were developed by blending three different synthetic components to make a composite material that sounds better and stays in tune better than standard nylon strings, but with the feel and playability of genuine gut. An added feature of this exclusive composite material is that is was designed to absorb less moisture than other strings; which greatly improves intonation and tuning accuracy. Compared to standard Nylon strings, New Nylgut strings have a density similar to gut, but provides an even more refined sound; eliminating the characteristic metallic-like tones often found in other synthetic designs. For the best sounding synthetic gut string that still gives the player the feel of genuine gut, Aquila New Nylgut are the perfect choice!

  • Great feel and sound
Style: Banjo Medium Tension
I put these on my fretless banjo and they sound and feel great. Nice warm sound and hold tuning decently well for nylon strings.

  • Old timey banjo sound
Style: Banjo Medium Tension
Great strings. Just what I wanted. Easy on the fingers and good sound. It takes awhile for the strings to stretch in tune but no biggie. I would buy them again.

  • The go-to name for nylgut banjo strings
Style: Banjo Medium Tension
I've had a few sets of Aquila nylgut strings on my 5-string clawhammer banjo, but this is the first time I've tried with the red 4th string. The red fourth really helps balance the feel with the other strings. With the red 4th string I'm able to tune that string to D (open G tuning), or down to C, and even down to B without the string getting really floppy and loose feeling. If you want to tune any lower than that, I suggest looking at some low tension string sets instead. The texture and color of the red string is different, but I don't notice any difference in the texture when I am striking the string with my fingernail. Nylgut is much less forgiving than steel strings and any sharp edge that the string comes in contact may cause it to break. This can happen at the nut, the bridge, or the tailpiece if it has sharp edges (as another reviewer noted) . I have not had any issues using these on my banjo with a "no-knot" tailpiece. an occasional broken string while changing these strings is not uncommon for me and I suggest people new to nylgut to get at least two sets in case you break one in the learning process. I've noticed that these strings last a pretty long time, but when they are starting to die they will often have some intonation problems when fretting up the neck. I used to think it was an issue with my banjo setup, but now when I encounter it I know its time for a string change. ... show more

  • Good quality.
Style: Banjo Medium Tension
Good quality, classic "spooky" sound. Unfortunately mine snapped after very little playing, but that was my fault and not the strings'.

  • Broken without adding barely any tension.
Style: Banjo Medium Tension
These strings break before you can even get the banjo in tune. Wast of money.

  • I wanted these strings to work and they did
Style: Banjo Medium Tension
I was interested in these strings and wanted to try them. After reading some of the reviews i was expecting to brake some strings. But i did not. I used medium strings and a good tuner. I like the sound and im impressed with the strings. I will buy them again. They did stretch alot but that was expected. After all was said and done, the banjo stays in tune. My banjo has a metal tail piece and tying the loops was not a problem. The product describes colored strings, but the strings are not colored, only the tips are colored and there is no white string. The fourth string is completely red. I like these strings so much im going to buy 3 more sets ... show more

  • Great feel
Style: Banjo Medium Tension
These strings have a great feel and sound; however (and I understand that this happens with many brands) the lightest string for the pip kept snapping when I got it to the right pitch. I’ve just been keeping it a couple of step down and like it so that where it’s staying.
