Description

AprilAire introduced the first evaporative humidifier for forced air furnace systems back in 1954. Since that time, AprilAire continues to lead the industry in whole home humidification systems – including steam humidifiers. AprilAire steam humidifiers use electrode technology and are simple to install, operate, and maintain. With electrode technology, electrical current flows between submerged electrodes, resistance of the water to the electric current heats the water. The submerged electrodes are found in a replaceable canister. At the end of a humidifier season, the canister – including the electrodes, is replaced. No cleaning, no scrubbing, simply replace the canister and you’re ready for the next humidifier season. Electrode technology requires impurities in the water to promote the transfer of electricity. For this reason, water filtration is not required with electrode technology, minimizing the complexity of the installation and on-going operating costs. This unit will operate with water hardness between 3 and 36 grains – a very wide range. If reverse osmosis or deionized water is present, plumb the steam humidifier to a water line before the water flows through the reverse osmosis or deionization equipment. INCLUDED IN THE BOX: Installation instructions, steam humidifier, Model 65 manual digital humidifier control with sensor, wall mount fan pack, steam hose (6 feet), 7/8 inch drain tubing (10 feet), hose clamps, saddle valve, mounting hardware, Model 4028 drain tee and trap assembly, Model 80 steam canister

  • Whole House Humidity is FANTASTIC vs a area humidifier
I installed this myself, as i have the skill sets needed, however this install was marginally “not easy”....our boiler “room” was the ideal location for the steam generator, as it has 240 volts, cold fresh water, and a drain. The boiler room has an adjacent wall into a hall way central to the living spaces. However, cutting two holes thru the boiler room wall to install appliance fixtures on both sides of that wall could have been dangerous to hidden wires / pipes. I drilled a small hole on the boiler room side to “look into” the wall to see if the 14” x 7” fan / steam pack would fit in. Knowing that it would, i cut the hole for the fan / steam pack and mounted it. The 45 degree steam inlet from the boiler room took a few tries because the “steam tube” has to be able to drain condensate back into the steam generator. The net result, it the unit outputs vast quantities of humidity, spreading pretty evenly through the house . We are very pleased, we have turned down the heat, because the humidity makes the house feel warmer than previously. We are very pleased, its well made, very quiet .... Very pleased ... show more

  • This unit looked like a good fit
This unit looked like a good fit, and I spoke to the technical support people at AprlAire about it. But the installation and placement in the home becomes a big issue. The minimum clearance from the top of the discharge vent to the ceiling is a minimum of 14 inches, Then, the minimum distance from the main unit and the discharge vent is 17 inches below the vent. This places large restrictions on where the unit can be placed in the house. Further, the discharge hose (at the base) of the unit is 7/8 inches and made of heavy black hose, as is the steam hose at the top of the unit. This limits the placement of the unit to be in the proximity to a drain somewhere in the house. Altogether, the unit is difficult to place in the home. It is best to have the discharge vent on one side of the wall, and the "boiler" on the other. But it is hard to find a spot in the house that meets the cold water supply, hot water drain, together with the minimum vertical separation specifications. It may be nice unit, but I was not able to install it anywhere in the home. ... show more

  • This unit along with the fan pack is great solution for our dry radiant heat home.
Product works as advertised. We are using this along with the fan pack in our radiant heat house. We still get some gurgling sounds even after installing the included trap. It's still quieter than portable humidifiers. Much better than using the portable humidifiers and filling up every other day / replacing media. ... show more

  • So Far, so good
I installed the Aprilaire 865 whole house steam humidifier only 10 days ago and at a time when temperatures were unseasonably warm, so I’m providing only initial impressions of the unit’s performance and comments on the installation. The installation is not for the inexperienced amateur nor the faint of heart. The instructions are poorly written, disorganized, and generally confusing. All the examples provided focus on injecting steam into a hot forced air furnace and little effort is expended on standalone installations that the 865 is made for. Be prepared to read those directions carefully and repeat the reading while examining the unit on a table. The electrical part of the job was straight forward, but the plumbing was difficult and I hired a plumber to handle that portion of the work. The humidistat is simple, but it has no smarts nor connectivity which is a disappointment. Choosing the location for the fan box is critical and you should consider that the fan forces the stream of steam downward and take precaution to mount away from furniture and walking paths. This is not mentioned in the manual! Operationally, the unit can really produce steam and in my 3,000 square foot home the humidity rose easily over a 12-24 hour period. After the first couple of days the weather warmed up and hence the unit was not called upon to raise the humidity. I will follow-up in 1-2 months to update this posting. ... show more

  • Dangerous product
I used this one season. It had an electrode recall due to fire hazard. I tried to use it for another season but it won’t power up due to the 220v connection on the board melting and not making proper connection. The canisters completely corrode up with only one years use. It’s a very expensive and dangerous pile of junk ... show more

  • DO NOT BUY UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES
This is a poorly engineered, non dependable piece of garbage, that's exuberantly expensive. Besides it's massive electrical consumption, the cost of cannister and solenoid replacements are unreasonable. Now the membrane switch and control board are defective. I'm awaiting replacement parts from Aprilaire. This system isn't worth the time, expenses and aggravation. ... show more
