As you can see from my image I have no space on my desk to keep my MacBook open. Thus I have no easy access to the finger print scanner. This was the best solution I could come up with. I saw somebody saying the Touch ID is not accurate and does not work 50% of the time. I have not had this issue. However the keyboard seems overpriced for what it is. It's not mechanical and is not as comfortable as my windows mechanical keyboard. It feels nice, it looks nice, the battery life is great but I feel like $70-100 should be the price for this product.     • Excellent Keyboard but Fair Long Term Durability

While I love these keyboards. They feel wonderful, are quite, Touch ID integration is fantastic and the battery life is incredible. However, the one thing I find very unfortunate is the longevity of the space bar for hard core users. I am a software developer and business owner. I work eleven hour days. These keyboards last for somewhere between 11 and 15 months before the space bar becomes compromised and starts missing strokes. I readily admit that I type at least double, maybe triple what a "normal" person types, so if you are a heavy user, you can probably expect a couple to three years of reliable use from the space bar. I bought this keyboard for my 2020 M1 MacBook Pro. It does exactly what it suppose to do. The fingerprint reader works flawlessly. After two weeks it was at 59% charge, and recharged vey quickly using a standard USB-A iPad charger and a USB-A to Lightning cord. I did the initial charge from the MacBook USB-C port using the included USB-C to Lightning cable. My only complaint is that while charging, the System Preferences KEYBOARDS window percent remaining does not change until you close and reopen the dialog, and is probably a macOS issue. This initially caused me to think it would only charge plugged into the computer with USB-C and not with a different standard USB-A charger. Purchased this version of the keyboard to add Touch ID to a Mac Mini. Setup was easy as is the case with most Apple products. Touch ID works very well and works with 3rd party apps as well.

The fingerprint reader is fast and mirrors the one on new MacBooks. Battery lasts…well, I’m not sure how long, I’ve had it for a couple months and I don’t think I’ve charged it yet. I have tried cheap keyboards and always come back to Apple quality. Best there is.

Everything works great except touch ID. Sometimes it works sometimes it will not work. Clean hands and clean keyboard and it will not work, come back later on and it works. Other than that, its a great keyboard.

I decided to build a desk setup, and use my M1 Pro as a hub. So, I needed to get a keyboard. Since I use Touch ID, a magic keyboard seemed the logical route. It works great. Bluetooth connectivity was easy and simple, as it usually is with Apple. Came mostly charged. I topped it off before using it. Been using it a week and the battery still shows full. I’ve seen people mention that it lasts for a month or more depending on use. I bet that’s pretty accurate. It’s a little bit small, which took a little getting used to. For starters, this keyboard only works fully (Touch ID) on Macs with Apple Silicon, which is unfair to anyone who bought an Intel Mac in the last few years. I mean it has to be technically possible for this to work with T2 equipped Macs, but with Apple, we get what they give us. There’s also no backlight either, so yeah. So if you like the style of these newer Magic Keyboards and you own an Intel Mac, only get this if you plan on upgrading to Apple Silicon, otherwise, you should get the $100 model without Touch ID. I think that this purchase only really makes sense for owners of the Mac mini or the 24” iMac who weren’t able to spend the extra money at the time (or just changed their mind). I don’t see why MacBook owners would ever buy this, but it will work with M1 MacBook Air/Pro and any future Apple Silicon Macs using what will likely be called the M1X and M2 chips being released later this year and next year, respectively. (I wrote this before they unveiled the M1 Pro/Max/Ultra naming conventions, definitely didn’t see them going in that direction but I guess it’s easier for people to differentiate which processors are more/most powerful). This is pretty much just a regular old Magic Keyboard with Touch ID and a few other changes like the emoji button and the curved edges, which falls in line perfectly with Apple’s latest design language. The layout is a bit different too, but it’s not hard to switch to this. The typing experience is pretty similar to the previous generation. It feels really good for this type of keyboard without much key travel. Pairing is simple, you just go into the keyboard settings and it will be detected as long as you turn on the keyboard. I never even plugged mine in until after pairing. You have to double tap the power button (on your Mac) to authenticate it the first time, similar to triggering Apple Pay on iPhone. Then you just register your fingerprint like on a MacBook, and good news- you can register multiple fingers. This is perfect for couples who share a desktop or even roommates or whatever. It’s really fast too, unlocking the Mac. About three times as fast as using my Apple Watch Series 3. I think that you really gotta be drinking the kool-aid to buy this at the current price. Or you just really need Touch ID on the desktop for some reason. 3.5 stars, but I’m being kind and rounding up to 4. Pros + Excellent Build Quality Includes braided USB C to Lightning cable (this is the first one they’ve ever made as far as I know, and now you don’t have to pay $1300 to get it with an iMac) Touch ID works really well, and is super fast to be on a separate piece of hardware Great typing experience (for a chiclet keyboard) Emoji key Cons- Not backlit (Really Apple?
