I have used a KA Stand Mixer for years. A couple years ago I switched to home milled flour. The first batch of whole grain whole wheat dough that I made in the KA, it tripped the protection circuit. The second batch the motor started to smoke. I actually stopped making bread because I was so frustrated and aggravated with my KA Stand Mixer. Enter my Ankarsrum Assistant Original. The very large open top stainless steel bowl is really great. You also get a second clear plastic bowl with two types of whisks for whipping cream and making soft doughs like cake batter. The included cover fits both bowls. It has a very powerful motor that is on the bottom. This makes the mixer very stable and leaves the bowl completely open which makes adding ingredients so easy. The 7 year warranty reflects the quality of the mixer, and the confidence that the company has in the build quality and components of this mixer! The drive system uses a worm gear instead of a gear driven transmission. This makes it noticeably quieter and so much more powerful. It also gives to an infinite number of speeds. Instead of a speed adjustment that clicks on the different speeds available, you have a rheostat type switch that can make minute adjustments to the speed. The Ankarsrum handles multiple loaves of whole grain whole wheat bread dough with ease and never sounds like it is straining! The dough roller and scraper works so much better than a dough hook, its shape mimics kneading the dough by hand. There is even a 12 minute timer to let you set your kneading time, and shuts the mixer off when the timer is done. Since purchasing my Ankarsrum Assistant I look forward to making bread again! ... show more

Takes care of mixing and kneading. Paddle and roller design is way better than dough hooks resulting in softer and lighter dough while using less flour. Although it has a small learning curve, the plethora of YouTube videos on using it will get you started like a pro. I did a lot of research before choosing a machine and this is hands down the best one money can buy for home use. Well worth the investment especially if you plan on making bread regularly. I mill my own flour and honestly don't think I would without this machine. Never buying store bought bread or flour again! Thanks Ankarsrum for such an awesome product. ... show more

I love this mixer. There is no cheap plastic on it anywhere. I powered through heavy bread dough-four loaves worth at once- and it didn’t even break a sweat. Cookie dough was a breeze. I love the dough roller attachment that comes with it: I think it works much better than a dough hook. (It came with that too.) Don’t be afraid to spend your money on this mixer; not only is it a better mixer, but it comes with the metal bowl, the roller, a bread hook, plus a heavy plastic bowl with two different types of whisks (think whisking egg whites) and the adapter to work with them. Also a bowl scraper that works as you mix, and a small hand scraper. There is also a pretty decent cookbook, which also shows you the other accessories (meat grinder, sausage stuffer, etc.) in case you might be interested. I tried the toast bread recipe right off the bat, and was very pleased with the result. Bonus; it comes in lots of colors. I got the coral crush version, and it looks great in my 50’s colors kitchen. ... show more

Update: After using this to bake bread 3-4 times I love it even more! This machine is leagues ahead of KitchenAid! It does all the work like scraping the bowl and gently kneading the dough. All I have to do is form the dough and let it rise. I am so glad I did my research instead of buying another KitchenAid. If nothing else, it comes with a 7 year warranty, which gives me confidence in the brand. As best I can tell, it is made in Sweden. Another win. The open bowl, motor on the bottom design, another win. Being able to see my dough/batter and being able to add ingredients without the need to stop the machine is a gift from the heavens. Being able to move the roller so that it grabs the batter white the machine is on. I love it. What about the bowl turning and a scraper, not in my hand, scarping the bowl and doing a fantastic job. I had a KitchenAid for years and almost bought another but there were a few things that I did not love about it so I decided to look around for something better. Literally, that's what I Googled. Bosch makes an open bowl design but it is a very lightweight mixer and I didn't want to deal with it dancing on the counter. Then, I stumbled upon this one and was intrigued. I debated spending the money but after watching some videos, I just had to go for it. I am 52 years old and waiting for this mixer to arrive turned me into a 10 year old waiting for Christmas. Yep, I was that excited and more that it's here, I'm still excited! This machine is worth every penny and improves on what we have accepted as the top of the line stand mixer in ALL the right ways. This mixer is a well thought out, well designed machine that does everything a stand mixer should do very quickly, quietly, and effectively. Oh and it's powerful even on the lowest speed. 600 watts is plenty for the way this machine has been designed. I do not anticipate ever buying another stand mixer! ... show more
