These actually work pretty well. I borrowed some round insert pads from another bra and tucked them in here and the shaping and separation was nice enough to wear in public under a tank top. The top edge has silicone to help it not slip, plus it is made a little snug. My only complaint is that it was actually a bit painful by the end of the day. I’m about a 36DD and bought large. I could have tried XL but I was afraid they wouldn’t be supportive enough or stay up. But maybe an XL would be more comfy. I bought LG, they fit, and stay on /up!! I’m 36 H/I for reference and don’t need lift /extra support. Bought for strapless /tank tops. If you need lift, it won’t do that, it’s not plastic surgery. Also can be seen on clingy tops.

It didn’t come with padding, and I did size down from the recommended large, glad I did. I’m a 36c and 155. It won’t work with Vnecks but it works for anything else! And it’s not gonna slide around either. I’ll be stitching padding in myself but you could use Pasties!
