Got this to read a check engine code light. It was pretty simple to hook up and get the reading. The instruction booklet was not much bigger than a postage stamp so get your magnifying glass out. My engine light came on and I was worried what was wrong and how much repairs would be. It gave me the code, explanation and other options. Now I would advise against clearing the code that will turn the engine light off because as explained by my mechanic they don’t use the p codes from this machine but they rely on the codes that come directly from the dealer. But aside from that I love having this because my vehicle is older and I can at least determine what’s wrong with the vehicle before taking it in which provides me with peace of mind plus the price is definitely right!     • Excellent tool to avoid paying mechanic fees
Our car’s engine light came on and I was concerned it could be something serious. The dealership charges $175 for diagnostics so I figured this little device could help me understand the gravity of the problem and determine whether we could drive the car or have it towed (more $$$). I received this tool the same day, looked up videos on how to use, and promptly got the error codes in question. A few more searches on those codes revealed that the issue was probably due to bad gasoline and that a reset and continued monitoring would suffice. I did the recommended solution and the car has been working fine and the light has stayed off. I figure I was able to resolve my problem at 10% of the cost to just get it into the shop and be at the mercy of them! The tool itself feels solid and will definitely be a great addition to the tool box!
