Top Amazon Reviews

  • Excellent image quality and night vision, app needs improvements
This two pack is basically putting two individual box together, so this review also applies to individual boxed version. The camera is compact in size, the mount base and joint allow enough flexibility to enable this camera to mount on celling or vertical wall. On top of camera is also an adjustable light shade, although it does not offer enough extension to be that useful. Setup is straight forward like most of the ONVIF compatible POE cameras. After connect it to the POE switch/router/NVR, you can access via browser or app. The app to download and use is "Amcrest View Pro 2". While this version is vastly improved over the previous version, it still has some quirks I don't understand the logic. To add a new camera, one can scan the QR code or let the app scan the LAN for compatible cameras on the network. What I don't understand is why it still insists me have to choose to set the camera is P2P or local IP access. If I want both, I have to add the same camera twice! To me, the app should default to access the camera via local IP first, if it failed then automatically fall back to P2P. Granted, some people for privacy concern do not want P2P, there should be just a general switch to turn P2P on or off instead of having to have two entries for the same camera. For streaming display, this version of app also adds the ability to show video stream in original aspect ratio instead of the previous version insist to stretch everything to fit screen. The problem is they still set the default to fit screen instead of original ratio and this option is buried two layers deep! Like many cameras, there are also a number of setup options cannot be done on the app but need to use the browser to access the more advanced settings. The picture quality of this camera is excellent. It produces very sharp images and the night vision either in B&W or color are excellent too. In fact, the color night vision is far above par. In a well lit street, I can turn off the built in white lights, just rely on the street lights, it still can produce excellent color night vision. As for motion detection, it is not so good. The app not only does not distinguish what type of motion like human, cars, pets etc, it is hard to jump from one event to another. making rather hard to review trigger events. Overall, excellent hardware dragged by the software. Although the app has been vastly improved, it is still have much to go. If you are using your own monitor, detect motion and recording software/NAS/NAR, then this is an excellent 8M camera that delivers above par picture quality, especially the night vision. ... show more

  • Very good security cameras
* Updated Review * After some more testing and usage, I wanted to update my initial review. The video quality of these cameras is very high and can be customized in several ways. Each camera has its own built-in webserver that allows you to control, configure, and monitor it. You can also use the software from Amcrest for their cameras (and other IP cameras) and setup these cameras in that where you can also control, configure, and monitor them from. Amcrest also has an app for Android and iOS that allows you to connect to the cameras from anywhere, if they have a working internet connection. The last option is using Amcrest's own NVR device. I tested these cameras with multiple methods, and all were good. The app was able to handle up to 4 devices per page and could be swiped to the sides if you have more. The video was good quality and clear. I am currently using these with an Amcrest NVR system that has an 8TB HDD in it for saving the video. The NVR makes setting up these cameras very easy as they are automatically detected and added. The cameras will get their initial IP address from DHCP but can be changed to static. I tried using a single one of these cameras at first and used a static IP address for it so I would not have to look up the IP when I wanted to check it. Each of these cameras has their own internal weatherproof slot for a micro-SD card so they can save video directly to that card and not have to rely on any outside recording system. This worked well for me when only using a single camera as it saved me from having to setup or get a dedicated NVR or use a PC for record tasks. These cameras have many different settings that can be done. I am trying several of the different features on these cameras and each one has been amazing so far. The one I am just starting to test now is the AI feature that is used for facial recognition. The camera can recognize faces and record who is there as well as be set to ignore people. It is also used to help stop false motion detection alerts by only monitoring for people and vehicles, if you prefer. I like the ability to record the video in H.265 as it offers much better compression while still keeping the same quality as H.264. They can still be set to record in H.264 and even a few different specs of that, if preferred. The audio quality and microphones are very good and they can be adjusted as well. The sample rate and the codec can both be changed for the audio as well. I think one of my favorite features is these cameras have two streams that they produce at the same time and can be set independently. The primary stream is the one that is typically used for recordings and single camera viewing, because it is a higher quality stream. The second stream is lower quality and used mainly for viewing/monitoring. This save a lot of bandwidth and processing for decode. Overall, I am very impressed with these cameras and the Amcrest ecosystem of products. These cameras work very well with their other products and provide an excellent option for small, high quality IP PoE cameras. ... show more
