I bought this to replace my Echo Dot Clock. I like that it has a displays that shows what song is playing, and that it shows the day, date, month, and outside temp. Now the big disappointment. I like a pitch black room when I sleep and with the Dot Clock I was able to tell it to turn the display off. I tried every command I could think of and the Echo Spot display only goes to a dim red when the lights are off. I was going to buy another one, but this is a big deal breaker for me. If I can’t get used to it I’ll probably bring back my Echo Dot Clock, and put the Echo Spot on my computer desk. ... show more

I have had many different Echo devices in the past including the Show's. I don't have anymore shows because they are just a constant rotating ad for Amazon and I wasn't having that. So far, with the 2024 Echo Spot, there are no ads and no settings for content to lead me to believe random content would be added in. It is Amazon though and they have a history of adding ad content without your consent. I'm optimistically hopeful they don't do that with this device. Speaker sounds good, display is nice and simply. The screen shows a big clock that you can adjust a few ways as well as rotating above that, a weather icon of the current conditions along with the temp and the date. Addressing the one review that says the clock isn't visible when music plays, I just tried it out and the clock is still visible, although it is a lot smaller. So far this is a device I am happy with. I hope it stays that way. ... show more

I own 6 Echo Spots. All have a line out socket for external amp/speakers, which I use for better/louder sound. I bought two of this new model because it is black (why didn't they offer black versions with a clock display before?) and appears to have a better display. BUT I am very disappointed to find that this new device has no line out, meaning that I can't replace any of my existing Echo Spots. So the two I just bought are going back. I'm sure that Amazon saved 15cents by leaving off the line out socket. NOWHERE in the online description is this mentioned. Even the tables comparing features with earlier generation Echo devices do not mention absence of a line out socket, an important feature for many people. Amazon needs to do better. ... show more

I bought this device b/c of the nice and bright clock display. I use echo devices in all my rooms in the house and need the clock for the bedroom and kitchen throughout the day. But once you play music the clock goes super tiny and it shows graphics for the song. I can't read it as I walk around the room or when I'm in the kitchen cooking. I have to stand right in front of it to see the time. I don't care about fancy graphics when music is playing. I bought the clock version of Echo for the clock, not fancy album covers. Anyway, I was thinking I would replace my older echos with this new one b/c the speaker is really good. But now I'll just stick to the small echos which keep the clock on all the time. Fail on Amazon's part. Oh, a couple other things. It doesn't tell you the room temperature and it can't be used as a wi-fi extender with Eero (I use that with my other Echo to get better wi-fi coverage in my house). ... show more

I got tired of my Echo Show 5 recommending a Taylor Swift alarm everytime I set an alarm so I jumped on this as soon as I saw it was released. Its nice to not have your alarm clock inundate you with ads all day. This is a great little alarm clock which is its pure intention. After a few hours of use I already have a few suggestions for future updates. 1) Please give the option to show the temperature and date on all clock faces, not just one. 2) Please give us the option to choose the color of the font in night mode. It currently defaults to red which for those of us who are visually challenged color wise is hard to read since we don't wear our glasses to bed. With the static nature of the fonts on the screen I'm a little worried about screen burn in but time will tell. ... show more

If you're tired of advertisements on repeat from the Echo Show and just wanted a clock, it's perfect. The display is nice and has good audio quality. I don't understand the need for the display screen honestly. It just shows the weather and then music you're listening to. There should be more animations or able to use it to view cameras. You can't video call and it won't let you see your Ring cameras. But if you just want an alarm clock with a display, then it's good. If you don't want a display, just get the Echo Dot with Clock. I loved the prior Echo Spot that was discontinued a long while ago. I have even almost given up on having Alexa devices in our home as they often got cluttered with unwanted ads and upsells... But this little device is a joy! (at least as long as Amazon doesn't decide to add too many things to it.) At it's core, it's a simple bedside or tabletop clock. It shows the time (+ date/weather depending on your chosen clock face) all while sticking to a nice minimal color theme of your choosing. Alexa is at the ready to set alarms or timers, play music, or answer questions - typical Alexa stuff, but that's about it. That's perfect for someone like me who would rather have a no-nonsense device with a cool and cohesive design. :D ... show more

    • Volume Increases automatically during Commercials

Amazon has added a very annoying feature to the Echo devices…. The volume automatically increases … sometimes to a painful level… during commercials. It is very annoying… and you have to turn off Alexa or tell her to decrease the volume… and then tell Alexa to increase when the program returns. I have not been able find a way to turn off or disable this this very annoying “feature”. I will not be purchasing any new Echo devices until I can stop the automatic volume increases for commercials. ... show more
