Description

LOLwut? NeoPixels in through-hole variety? Oh yes, we haz them! If you like NeoPixel strips you'll luv these 8mm diffused through-hole NeoPixels. All the single-pin-controlling-hundreds-of-LEDs goodness in a breadboard friendly format. Each LED looks just like your classic through-hole 8mm RGB LED with 4 legs, but instead of just red/green/blue there's a little chip inside that can control the LED with high speed PWM for 24-bit color. Power them with 5V and chain them together, tying the Data-Out pin of one to the Data-in of the previous one in the chain. If you're using an Arduino, you can control these LEDs with our wonderfully-written Neopixel library for Arduino. They also work great with our Trinkets. Note that these are "RGB" instead of "GRB" format used in the 5050-sized LEDs you are so used to. Check in the NeoPixel example code for how to swap the colors automagically. These great looking LEDs are also fast and responsive with diffused color that will make your project glow!

  • A bit pricey but soooo much easier to use than standard "dumb" RGB LEDs
At just over a dollar per LED, they're not cheap, but... It makes adding RGB LEDs so much easier because you only tie up one microcontroller wire and you can add as many as you need to just that one wire (plus power and ground to each LED). You don't have to tie up 3 lines per LED and don't have to worry about setting the right PWM on each line to get the color you need. Maybe most importantly, you don't worry about drawing too much current from your microcontroller pin to drive them, since you wire them directly to your power source (assuming it's the right voltage). I'm currently using them in my ESP8266 projects. The only drawback is that you need to include appropriate libraries in your project, and for less powerful microcontrollers, with minimal memory, that may not be an option. Note that for the price, I may be going to the round wafer style addressable LEDs you can get now, which are much cheaper per LED but these are still nice where you want a "classic" diffused LED look. ... show more

  • Did Not Function Properly
The product did not work as advertised. I substituted these LEDs into a circuit that already had working unencased Neopixels, and they did not properly respond to the color commands. Even after trying alternate libraries and command structures, these units would not respond as advertised.

  • A++. Great product. Fast delivery. Recommended.
A++. Great quality product. Fast delivery. Although I think the price could be lower, after I received the product and compared with others, I am OK with the price. Quality counts. Recommended.

  • Beautiful Bright Colorful
These are bright, beautiful, addressable LED's. You will need Arduino or other platform to send the signal to the LED's. See Adafruit website for moe details. I have taken a liking to this type versus the Neopixel rings. however, then you have to wire up your own designs.

  • Very nice, work great.
One wire control is the best, easy to mount, great color and brightness.
