The content has some significant depth to it but is also excellent for beginners. This book does not replace the manual but in term of practical knowledge and application it's A-1. For beginners I suggest a slowly paced journey through the book from start to finish. Not rushing and enjoying and digesting what is explored in this book will help you move slowly but deliberately to mastery of this very powerful DAW. Probably the best introduction to Ableton Live that I have found thus far. The book is easy to read for beginners and does not require a PhD in music theory or computer science to understand. The colorful diagrams and explanations are a joy and super helpful. I do wish the author had some workshop tutorials to create a basic score or soundtrack as a captone even to the book. ... show more

This is a great textbook to learn Ableton 9 and is made of many color pictures and diagrams to facilitate the learning process. Anyone who is trying to learn how to use Ableton 9 should have this book in their library.

horrible and confusing this book is like torture and is making me wish I never bought it and now I want to quit ableton and look for a different DAW edit 5yrs later: Thanks to this book I quit Ableton and tried a few more DAWs and finally found Reaper :) Thank you!
