  • Where have you been all my life?
We always put our skates on and laces would be as tight as possible, but still wobble around. Retighten. Go again. Then I found this and now I can tighten those laces like a pro. The red plastic, when the hook is out, forms the handle. The hook is placed under the laces and you pull up or out, depending on your viewpoint. Move to the next laces up. Hook and pull. It works so well, I am left with excess lace that builds from all the pulling. So that has to be groomed out or you literally end up with a bird's nest of hockey skate lace at the top of the boot. Once all done, I keep this baby in my pocket and as we skate I can make adjustments. Great device! ... show more

  • Really handy!
Years ago, I played hockey and everyone had a lace hook. Nowadays, all I lace up are my work boots but this is a great, handy little gadget to have! I got one for home and one for the road. I love the folding feature! My old one was a metal T-shape and, if you didnt wrap it with tape, would pinch the inside of your finger when you pulled. This one doesn't do that! I'm going to get my son a couple for when he goes to USMC boot camp in June. They might not let him use them at Parris Island but he'll appreciate them when he starts lacing up 10" boots every day! Update: 01 NOV 2020 I got these for all the guys in my son's platoon plus a few extras for the drill instructors. I shipped them after they completed boot camp, and before shipping out to further training, so there would be no question of favoritism or bribery. We weren't allowed to attend graduation due to covid restrictions on post so I wanted the fellows to have a graduation gift that would be of use to them in their military careers. They were well received!❤ ... show more

  • Good tool, can recommend to have
I am a skating instructor at a local skating rink and I like when my students tight the skate laces properly. I think all of them have bought this tightener. This tool is simple and affordable and it makes the job done, especially at the low part of the laces, where the good grip with the finger is problematic. It works well on the figure skates and on the hockey skates. ... show more

  • It is what I expected
This is a good tool. It is what I expected for the price. However it works for what I need from hiking boots, to motorcycle boots and shoes. It is small and light weight to throw in backpack or saddlebags. I realise it will not last forever as it is not high end material, but it will work.

  • Good price but over rated
I keep getting callouses and blisters from tying my figure skates and retying all the time because I need them so tight. I was hoping that this would help but honestly it is tedious to use. It's possible I am not using it correctly but I couldn't find a video anywhere of how it's supposed to be used. I was able to get my laces a little tight with it but it was time consuming to use. ... show more

  • Simple and Effective
This is a useful tool. I purchased for my soon-to-be nine-year-old Squirt to help him get his skate laces tight enough. I dinged it one star for build quality. I could see it not lasting too many seasons, but it is inexpensive enough to replace it. There is another version of this tool that is all metal and looks like a "T". . . I would imagine that is more durable and easier to pull (although I have not used that model). ... show more

  • Hockey Mamas Unite!!!!
This little tool comes in handy for days I get stuck taking the boys to hockey. Between Raynaud's syndrome and carpel tunnel, my hands are like that a 90-year old woman. I could never get the boys skates tight enough until now! This has been a lifesaver for me (and my poor hands), my boys (they're not tripping and falling from poor skate support), and the dad's on my boys hockey teams (they can focus on dressing their own kids without having to deal with mine too ;-) ... show more

Does as advertised. Not the easiest to get open from a closed position. I suggest spending a few dollars more to get a "fancier" lace tightener that is more ergonomic and easier to open/close.
