Description

A child's delight in a new pair of shoes is the same all over the world, whether the shoes are patent-leather sandals, straw alpargatas, deerskin moccasins or wooden clogs. For Mako, a little Japanese girl, the new shoes were clogs painted with red lacquer that shone beautifully. This is the story of what happened after she cracked the new clogs playing the weather-telling game and so longed for a bright, shiny new pair to replace them that she almost did a dishonest thing. The warmth and quiet understanding of the grandmother who, remembering her own temptations as a little girl, recalls this story for her granddaughter, makes A Pair of Red Clogs especially moving. Kazue Mizumura's charming illustrations are as delicate and graceful as the story itself. "Perfect for preschoolers." ƒƒ‚ƒƒ‚‚ƒƒƒ‚‚ƒ‚‚ƒƒƒ‚ƒƒ‚‚‚ƒƒ‚‚ƒ‚‚ƒƒƒ‚ƒ ƒ‚‚ƒƒƒ‚‚ƒ‚‚‚ƒƒ‚ƒƒ‚‚‚ƒƒ‚‚ƒ‚‚‚ƒƒ‚ƒƒ‚‚ƒƒƒ‚‚ƒ‚‚ƒƒƒ‚ƒƒ‚‚‚ƒƒ‚‚ƒ‚‚‚ƒƒ‚ƒƒ‚‚ƒƒƒ‚‚ƒ‚‚‚ƒƒ ‚ƒƒ‚‚‚ƒƒ‚‚ƒ‚‚"ƒƒ‚ƒƒ‚‚ƒƒƒ‚‚ƒ‚‚ƒƒƒ‚ƒƒ‚‚‚ƒƒ‚‚ƒ‚‚ƒƒƒ‚ƒƒ‚‚ƒƒƒ‚‚ƒ‚‚‚ƒƒ‚ƒƒ‚‚‚ƒƒ‚‚ƒ‚‚‚ ƒƒ‚ƒƒ‚‚ƒƒƒ‚‚ƒ‚‚ƒƒƒ‚ƒƒ‚‚‚ƒƒ‚‚ƒ‚‚‚ƒƒ‚ƒƒ‚‚ƒƒƒ‚‚ƒ‚‚‚ƒƒ‚ƒƒ‚‚‚ƒƒ‚‚ƒ‚‚€ƒƒ‚ƒƒ‚‚ƒƒƒ‚‚ƒ‚ ‚ƒƒƒ‚ƒƒ‚‚‚ƒƒ‚‚ƒ‚‚ƒƒƒ‚ƒƒ‚‚ƒƒƒ‚‚ƒ‚‚‚ƒƒ‚ƒƒ‚‚‚ƒƒ‚‚ƒ‚‚‚ƒƒ‚ƒƒ‚‚ƒƒƒ‚‚ƒ‚‚ƒƒƒ‚ƒƒ‚‚‚ƒƒ‚‚ ƒ‚‚‚ƒƒ‚ƒƒ‚‚ƒƒƒ‚‚ƒ‚‚‚ƒƒ‚ƒƒ‚‚‚ƒƒ‚‚ƒ‚‚"Parents Magazine Read more

  • Beautiful Artwork! Deals with Honesty & Taking Care of Our Things
Bought this as a part of our Five in a Row curriculum. Lovely story about a girl who gets brand new clogs and accidentally damages them soon after. Desperate for new clogs she plans to trick her mother into buying her new ones. This a a nice story to help teach kids about honesty and taking care of their belongings and a peek into Japanese culture. It is beautifully illustrated! For secular homeschoolers/families: A great choice! ... show more

  • Great story with good morals
This is a wonderful book that teaches the importance of caring for our things and honesty. I love the perspective - from an adult remembering their childhood.

  • Great little book - pre-school/kindergarten age
I was read this book as a child. It was my favorite. I think because I was right at the age where I was learning right and wrong and how lying is not a good thing. For some reason, 40 plus years later, I saw a pair of the clogs on a TV show and it jogged my memory of this story. I remember as a child I always wanted those clogs. Very cute book and a great one for teaching taking care of your things and not lying. (I bought the clogs off amazon too!!) ... show more

What a cute and simple story with a good message about honesty / dishonesty. Easy to read and opens up a good dialogue about Japanese culture. Recommend!
