  • 8Bitdo Continues To Establish Themselves As The Best Third Party Controllers
Color: Yellow
I have 3 other 8Bitdo controllers and am extremely happy with all of them. In my opinion there is no other third-party controllers that are even close to the offerings from 8Bitdo. And the Zero 2 is no exception. With its minuscule size, most will look at this and see it as a novelty. Having used it for over a month now, it it's not just a novelty. It is a full featured well build controller. The obvious caveat here is, if you have big hands, this controller is definitely not for you. I have small hands and have surprisingly found that I can use it for long gaming sessions. Have I dropped it once or twice due to its size? Very rarely but is has happened. The casing has excellent fitment, the Dpad is actually amazing, and the buttons are raised to the perfect height and the shoulder buttons have a nice clicky response. The Bluetooth connection is very straight forward, and I connected the first time. And I have never experienced connection issues with the Zero 2. The battery life well over 8 hours now and I still haven’t had to charge it. If you have small hands and are looking for a secondary controller (take it to your neighbors and play some retro games) you really can't go wrong with 8Bitdo's latest offering. Finally, I have no affiliation with 8Bitdo and did not receive a test/courtesy controller from anyone. This was my full price purchase and reviewed in my own words, with my own opinion. (BTW How do you get on that list to get on free review hardware? I can do much better than the half literate reviews you see that somehow get free equipment to review. Anyone out there that can take care of this. I’d make you proud lol...) ... show more

  • The shoulder buttons are too hard to press.
Color: Turquoise
TLDR: Overall, the face buttons are god tier. The shoulder buttons are so stiff and the controller is so hard to grip onto that you end up being unable to use it for extended periods of time without strain to your hands. ^^;; Full Review: It is really unfortunate but, due to the nature of the controller, the shoulder buttons let things down horribly. The face buttons are phenomenal and the D pad is way more precise than even the sn30 pro of theirs which is my go to controller. This controller is super small, but when using the face buttons that doesn't actually seem to matter to me. (It's a little longer and about 30% thinner than my car remote.) The shoulder buttons are very obviously tactile metal dome switches and require about 5x the force to push down as the face buttons though. If this was a full sized controller that would probably be fine, but this is a very slick backed and small controller. The back is a very smooth matte finish that makes holding onto the controller positively very hard. As such, when you press the shoulder buttons it tends to actually click/press a little later than you mean for it to and it also starts to push the controller out of position in your hands. It also makes it hard to hold the buttons down reliably. To combat this you end up trying to grip the underside of the controller where the pairing light is with ring finger and/pinky fingers and it really starts to strain your hands after a while because so much of the force is going into the side of your fingers if the game you are playing uses the shoulder buttons a lot. You can improve upon this issue by using a good rubber grip tape on the back, but if your hands start to sweat you end up with the issue again. I ended up using some "Cats Tongue Grip tape" that I had purchased for something else and that gave me much better grip overall, but I'm probably going to use sugru formed to my fingers on the back instead. If I could have them redesign this controller, it would have the following changes probably: -Don't worry about making it thicker.. it's beyond thin and could be twice as thick and would still be amazingly tiny. -With that extra space, switch to rubber dome/contact switches for the shoulder buttons. -Maybe contour the back more so that it wants to stay put in someone hands. -Experiment with textures on the back that would allow for extended gameplay without losing grip. -Use USB-C instead of USB-B/Micro. Since USB-C is a cell phone standard a gamer is more likely to have a USB-C cable than a USB-B at this point. ... show more

  • Payed peanuts for an awesome little emulator controller.
Color: Yellow
Had reasonable expectations for this thing. The build quality is good for a little budget gadget but it's been fabulous for emulating games like pokemon. Works with retroarch for Android easy peasy. The wrist strap is great if you're wandering around the house while gaming. I wouldn't play any sort of input heavy platformer with it but there's a wealth of turn based strategy games and rpgs that would pair nicely with this bad boy. ... show more

  • Good for Anki, Some Pairing Trouble
Color: Turquoise
This device is really handy when reviewing Anki cards. I often walk on the treadmill and go through Anki cards using this device. The major problem with this Bluetooth controller is the fact that it cannot pair to two computers if you are using the xinput setting. I had trouble figuring this out because I used the device on my laptop and desktop, and would always have to re-pair it whenever switching from laptop to desktop and vice versa. However, because I think the device is valuable, I purchased another one to use for my laptop only. There are no connection problems when switching from Android to xinput (PC). ... show more

  • Nice for small hands, smaller than an Altoids Tin
Color: Pink Edition
Controllers works well on multiple systems. Has a power on sequence (power+button) for different target systems. It is smaller than I expected. I expected about 50% bigger. However, it isn’t so small it is unusable for an adult. Better for a small child. A positive is that the home key (select+down) isn’t immediately obvious, so you can launch a game for a small child and they can’t quit into other games or profiles without knowing this. Included documentation is good. Works as described. Pairing took a bit of work but the documentation procedure worked. It was even able to sleep/wake the console in initial testing. A few days later it has come unpaired—maybe because of how I powered it back on, so I need to test it some more. Disconnection isn’t the worst thing since it isn’t my primary controller (only for a small child to play.) Works with Mario Maker 2 (tested.) ... show more
