  • WiMius K8 delivers with great features at a very affordable price, stationary or mobile use
The media could not be loaded. My interest was perked when I heard about this new WiMius projector K8, with some potentially useful new and improved features. So I ordered it to find out how well it works. Note that I already had deeply researched projectors over a year ago, and needed special features then. I ended up buying the WiMius p28 because it promised features I required, primarily the size of image, brightness, and Keystone correction in horizontal as well as vertical directions. The p28 delivered on those features and then some. The horizontal Keystone correction I required was 3-4 at 13.5 ft from the screen, and it passed with flying colors. But the K8 projector promised more. I set it up on a table 8 ft 3 inches to the right of the perpendicular line to the center of the 100 inch diagonal screen. This puts it at about 15 ft 2 inches from the center of the screen and at an angle of about 37.5 degrees from perpendicular to the screen. Check out the drawings and pictures I posted here. Sorry for not holding the phone square to the screen at times. I powered it up, connected to a spare DVD player, and proceeded to set it up, and adjust the Keystone points (using 4 point correction). And I was able to square it up on screen. I also made an image of a grid, which I placed on a USB stick, to check for squareness of the projected image. I included the image to use, and a photo of the screen with it projected. Light is coming into the room when I took the pictures and video from all sides and even to the rear, during a bright sunny day. The brightness on screen was very good, and quite watchable during the day. I can also close up the light coming in to a much greater degree. But this is how I normally use the p28 projector, so I left the light control alone, and the K8 did well. Note that the p28 sits on a shelf at a height of 7 ft in order to avoid shadows from people moving around. The picture and video last posted are taken with the drapes all drawn, but the day is quite bright. They are from Die Hard. The others are from Midway, and taken during only slightly partial room darkening. Check out the setup diagrams and pictures, and the photos of the on-screen video. This projector is AMAZING in the Keystone correction, and can solve problems for many situations. I have it sitting on a table well to the right and behind seating, such that it is projecting below the height of persons sitting and far enough to their right that there are no shadows. Individuals can get up and leave or return without obstructing the screen. This capability can come into play for meetings where you might want the projector over to the side, rather than the projector down the middle, with all the cords and other equipment necessary blocking the view for the audience. I see this as my go-to projector for events. What also makes it great for events is that the K8 projector comes with a backpack style custom fitted case, ½ inch of foam all around and pockets for cables, manual, etc. This project is made for indoor and outdoor events. I now intend to get an outdoor screen for summer events These are pretty inexpensive screens. And the brightness of the K8 also add to the usefulness in conditions found in event locations. Sound is decent with the internal speakers. But if you have more than just a few people watching, the background noise they generate will probably require an amplified speaker system. These are plentiful and come in Bluetooth, wired, battery, stereo, and other featured models. The stereo systems are very nice. But do note that Bluetooth has a small delay, so lips do not sync perfectly with the sound. That is just a “feature” of Bluetooth. I don’t mind it now and then, but if you do not like it, just run a wire to the speakers. And yes, the K8 I am reviewing here has Bluetooth, and it remembers the last set device. So that is yet another feature that makes the K8 great for events. My p28 does not have Bluetooth, but I don’t move it anywhere, so that isn’t an issue for the fixed installation. The remote and menu system is improved on the K8 over the p28. It is now more intuitive, once you have figured the functions out. I do love the 4 point Keystone correction function, but think I’d like it to start out in the middle of the magnification range rather than the maximum size. That would help keep it on screen when you are too far away and need to shrink the image. One feature that my other, much older and pitifully weak travel projector had was a SIM slot. On a projector that is mobile like the K8, for meetings where you have the same collection of material to show, the media could be on a SIM card just left in the projector’s SIM slot. You would always have it with you. As a substitute, I plan to use a USB stick with a short USB extension cord to prevent possible damage while plugged in. I have broken USB sticks in the past. It is good that the K8 has a height adjustment screw. But for travel, I probably won’t use it, as it could get damaged. Instead, I use 2-4 rubber doorstops as wedges to raise the front. Works just as well and is faster to adjust. Maybe someday the features and brightness of the K8 will be reduced to fit in a case the size of a phone. But for now, I highly recommend the K8 for stationary and mobile use. And for mobile, I’d get a portable screen if you do not have one. Amazing features for less than $300. This is a hard to beat deal for a great and inexpensive stationary and mobile projector. ... show more

  • Please don't buy any of these budget projectors! Here's my story.
I don't normally write reviews for items I buy, but since the seller tried to lie to me, here goes. I actually liked this thing at first. I had issues with two Yaber projectors in a row, so I switched to this one. You will never get an accurate color from it, because they decided to not put a tint adjustment on it. You have to rely on preset picture settings. It does have user, but still with no tint adjustment you will not get anything but an artificial looking color tone. About 3 months of having this thing, it started to slowly get this blueish blob almost in the center of the image as seen in the pics. It's a lot worse to the eye than it shows in the pics. It also developed darker areas as seen in the white screen calibration slide pic. Not only is it getting darker on the right and left edge of the image, you can actually see what looks to me like circles, I'm guessing it's the edge of the cheap lenses they use in these things. The blue blob I'm showing you in these pics is from today. It started out subtle, but has gotten worse every day. I'm assuming it will continue to get worse over time, but it's hard to say. So I was working with the seller as much as I could, sending them pics and describing the issues, but then they just started making things up. The seller told me this was normal! They said it wouldn't do this on movies, just regular tv? As you can see, these pics are from movies, 4k movies! Without writing a novel here about this experience, I would highly recommend you do what I'm doing and get a cheap brand name one(Optima, Epson, Benq etc.) Save yourself the aggravation of continuous swapping out of defective junk! The seller offered a refund and told me to keep the projector. Then they had the nerve to make me feel like they were doing me a favor by letting me keep this piece of trash! LMAO!!! Please, if you took the time to read this, please know that these "budget" projectors are what they are. It's a cliche, but you get what you pay for. ... show more
