It is being used on an inflatable dinghy in Florida. It is near the ocean water everyday. The tank already starting to look rusty though we spray it with water repellent spray often. It is holding up well so far an hasn't given us any issues. To use it in reverse you have to hold it down into the water as it wants to pop up when you give it any throttle. It is working fine. The directions are in Chinese. You should not purchase unless you are very familiar with small outboard motors. It is not made for every day use in salt water.

    • Does well for what I paid for
First thing: due to terrible translation manual has been written in an incomprehensible English therefore useless. I looked up users experience, and used common sense to figure out how to get started. I added motor oil first, there was no oil. I filled up only half way, learned from other's reviews if you add more it will smoke like hell. After filled up a gear housing with synthetic gear oil because there was no oil either. Then filled ethanol free gas 90 in the tank 1/4 and pumped 5 times the the little initiator. Pulled the rope and voilà ! It started at the first pull and ran for three hours until ran out of gas. It was a bit rough and loud, with lots of vibration and noise, but kept running, not a hiccup. Second day filled up 1/4 with gas, started at first pull, made less noise, ran smoother and smoother for four hours until ran out of gas. Seems like getting better at every use. After 20 hours brake in time will change oil and start using on the boat. It's cheaply made, not a Tohatsu, or a Mercury but what I paid for it does everything well. It's obviously not a 4HP motor, more likely a 2HP but will move a small, light vessel at 5-7 miles with ease. Good maintance is important with any boat engine, this one needs a little more TLC. especially if use it on salt water. I'll upgrade the spark plug, propeller, air filter and modify exhaust to make it quieter, using only ethanol free fuel and premium synthetic motor and gear oils and dielectric grease on the electric components to get the best out of this little cheapo but charming motor. ... show more

    • Do not purchase this motor.
This product blew oil out of the carb with the initial start up and and smoked worse than a bug fogger. Shut it off immediately and started the return process. I will update this as it goes and pray I do not get the hard time I've just read others are getting when trying to return.

If I could give this product 0 stars I would. It was shipped well however after putting the correct oil and fule in I tested it in a water barrel. The motor seezed up and cracked the block. Do not buy this product!
