Description

The Hartford Privacy Screen is a stylish solution to enclose, hide, or conceal ugly trash bins or pesky air conditioning units. This DIY kit comes with three unassembled privacy fence panels that can be configured in a U or L shape. Please allow for roughly 90 minutes of assembly and installation time for your Hartford Screen. Once assembled, each individual panel measures 4ft in height by 3.6ft in width. When assembled in a U configuration, perfect for concealing air conditioning units, the total assembled dimensions are 48.5in H x 40.25in W x 43.4in L. If you prefer to use this product to conceal trash bins in an L configuration, the total assembled dimensions are 48.5in H x 86.75in W x 43.4in L. This product was designed with sufficient space between the slats to provide efficient airflow while concealing A/C units and the pre routed assembly holes allow for perfect slat placement. Spacers are included with your purchase that make it easy to assemble the screen’s rails. The no-dig installation is as simple as using a mallet to drive the included rust-free metal ground stakes through the angled brackets and into the ground. Pop on the metal stake caps and you’re good to go. Included decorative post caps are the perfect final touch to complete your screen. The Hartford is made from premium grade vinyl making this screen virtually maintenance free and both UV and rust resistant. This product was exactly what we needed to hide an intrusive, huge air conditioning unit as I redesigned a large garden scape into a smaller one. (Photo 1) Read the directions carefully before putting the unit together. Hint: If you want the 3-sided design as I have (Photo 2), when you get to the part of the directions that simply say "Page 17" that means TURN TO PAGE 17 to complete the assembly for a three-sided screen. I went too far and had to undue part of a side. The directions are not the best in the world, but I did manage to put the unit together by myself by building from the bottom up. Hubby helped by holding up each of the mostly completed sides as I attached them to the main unit, so I do recommend a second person for this final step. I did not insert the ground rods for anchors since we have the air unit serviced twice yearly; however, I did use a level to get the turf it's sitting on adjusted as needed. This very nice screen appears heavy enough that we don't think it's going to go anywhere. We've had a couple of storms with wind and no issues so far. We've also had very nice complements on it's compatibility with the new garden area. ... show more

This is a very high quality fence and relatively easy to put together. Make sure to check all dimensions before ordering though. We did but it still ended up being larger (taller) than we expected. It is a solid fence so can be a bit large and bulky, but not in a bad way.

The unit looks nice. It hides the containers very well. The components are of light weight vinyl. It went together nicely and with not to much complication. Since I used the “L” shape pattern, It would’ve been nice to have the main post labeled. For easier installation. When installing it onto the ground, the installation stakes that are provided, are very flimsy, and attach to the base with only one small screw. I do not believe they will withstand much stress at all. The way that they attached to the base of the posts, and anchor into the ground, is not very strong at all. The vendor should include an additional stakes and stake holding clips with the project, making sure that all four post have anchors into the ground. I resolved that the ground stakes were not strong enough to withstand the normal winds in my area. So, I went to the local home improvement store and bought some metal fence post, about six dollars each, and drove them into the ground behind white post, adding incredible strength to the upright post. I’m Recommending them with only three stars as, I believe the material should be stronger and the ground fastening system much more stable. But they do look nice. ... show more

Well-engineered product! Watch the video and remember there is an A post and a B post. Even though they look alike- one is for 2 panels to attach to. I say it's a 2-person job- to get the slats right with the spacers and to hold snug while one person drills is important for it to turn out right.
