Description

Premium quality: Sukh Akadama soil is made from naturally occurring volcanic clay, mined from volcanoes in Japan, and is a high quality planting medium. Akadama bonsai soil is highly porous, absorbs water quickly, and also has good drainage, making it an ideal pon substrate for plants.Nutrient retention & prevention of soil compaction: Akadama pon for plants has the ability to retain nutrients, and it is also well aerated. It ensures that plants get enough nutrients but do not become water-logged. And the dry soil does not compact easily, which helps maintain optimal conditions for plant growth. No compaction ensures that oxygen and water can easily reach the roots.Neutral pH: Akadama clay soil has a neutral pH which means that it has neither acid nor alkaline properties. This is important because it does not affect the pH balance of the water or the nutrients.Attractive appearance: Akadama inorganic soil has a beautiful reddish-brown color and has a consistent particle size that ensures an even flow of water and air, also this adds visual appeal to the plants it is used for and is suitable for plants that need to be displayed indoors or in public places.Visual indicator: Akadama soil has uniformly rounded grains between 6 and 12 cm. akadama soil darkens when wet, indicating when to water the plants.

  • Akadama that all the Japanese Bonsai and Succulent Do It Yourself Books Recommending
Many succulent and bonsai gardening books are referencing Akadama to be used when they put together plants, so I have to get these to try as following the instruction. They came in a flat vacuumed sealed bag like you might find in frozen fish in a grocery store (great way to transport items) and good that it didn't waste any boxes or padding to reach consumers. Because it was listed as 400g package, I wasn't fully aware of how much in the package. So it felt they are a little less than I hoped to get for an order. Otherwise, they work well and exactly what I would expected for the quality wise. ... show more

  • Tightly packed
Weight: 15.0 ounces
I didn't dislike anything, but you do have to be careful getting the pebbles out of the bag as they are tightly packed. I had more than enough for the small container I used.

  • Great for transplanting a bonsai
I have a bonsai that outgrew the pot it was in and was in desperate need of being replanted, but I was waiting until I found the proper soil for replanting a bonsai. This soil did the trick. I was able to move my tree into a deeper pot and fill it in with this bag of bonsai soil. My only criticism is that I thought there would be more soil when I ordered it, and when it showed up in a shrink wrapped package, I assumed it would expand to nearly double in size after opening the package or watering the plant the first time, unfortunately it did not do as expected. However, it is still very nice. I would recommend getting two bags if you are going to re-pot a bonsai plant. One will do for adding to an existing pot that has lost some of its soil. I recommend this bonsai soil. ... show more

  • Great for succulents and lithops
UPDATE 6-5-2023: My lithop plants seem to do really well in the mix I did of the Akadama soil and Cacti/Succulent potting soil mix. .................. I've grown a lot of succulents in the past and have never used this type of akadama soil before. I'm now using it for my succulents and lithop plants. It definitely seems to have better drainage than your typical potting soil - it seems ideal for plants that get water less frequently and perhaps in a torrent or downpour once in awhile. I'll update over time as to how my plants are faring in it. ... show more
