  • Comparing the 600 and the 300....one smells and the other eliminates all smell.
Style: Kit
The 600 blower models remove absolutely all trace of odor, while the lighter 300 models allow odors but eliminate particles. There are size and capacity differences between this unit and the less expensive TR 300. See also my review of the 300. The 600 can run a wide range of removal filters focusing on everything from particles to organics and nitrates. The 300 is basically a paper filter for particles. I have severe lung sensitivity to chemicals. I can't smell anything in the 600 set wearing any helmet option, not even burning toast. If you are trying to protect yourself from immune response, the 600 lets me do so much work without even noticing a reaction. The big difference with the 600 is the size. I was used to wearing a 300. The 600 requires a heavy duty belt, and the entire set up weighs more, because the filter on the 600 is clearly superior, it requires a larger motor and battery to provide a higher level of filtration. Filters are also expensive and will require replacement depending on the level of chemicals you are exposed to. The 300, being intended for dust, is less likely to reach end of life. because you are breathing in most chemicals as they are freely passed through. The 300 will pick up some odors when exposed grass clipping or smoke. The unit can be cleaned to eliminate these. The 600 will handle any chemical load, but the filter will eventually need replacing. Sparing you a lecture on airborne particles, this unit will handle 600 series filters that will handle any industrial load. Homeowners should have long filter life but with heavy use, you made need to research filters, which cost well over $100. UPDATING AUGUST 2018 I have been using and favoring the 600 in most situations. When working hard and moving around the yard, I like the 300 in situations with heavy dust only. With the 300. I can smell the grass clipping and smoke through the paper filter. These are chemical odors, small molecules. Mold spores and dust will not make it through either filter. The 300 is so light to wear, you can't tell it is on, and it is hardly fatiguing. Both are great for wood working. I bought a Five pack box of the Tyvek Helmets and never use my hard hat version. It is just so easy to beat up the lighter hood and throw it away. ... show more

  • Worth the price
Style: Kit
I have a beard, and wear corrective glasses. By providing positive air pressure, this unit does not require a tight seal around the face, and so works well will both beard and glasses. I use dust projection for: (1) woodworking; (2) work in attic insulation; (3) dusty yard work, including lawn mowing and running a chipper-shredder. works well It is great for the woodworking dust, and wood finish vapors (different cartridges). For the attic work it is by far the best thing I have found, and the hard-hat has saved my head from quite a few bumps against trusses. However, crawling through blown-in insulation tends to clog the pre-filter screen rather quickly; I need to come out periodically and clean the screen. For the yard work, it cuts the dust and fumes OK, but the location of the rear belt-mounted filter/motor unit is a problem. For the mower, it interferes with the seat. For the wood chipper, and to a lesser degree the mower, there is also a problem with pulling in motor exhaust. I was surprised to learn that lowering the air intake from head level to belt level brings in a lot more exhaust fumes, since it is very close to the same level as the mufflers of the machines. For this reason I have been forced to go back to my old no-powered full-face mask for the yard work. I wish I had bought this sooner. None of the otherI use dust projection for: (1) woodworking; (2) work in attic insulation; (3) dusty yard work, including lawn mowing and running a chipper-shredder. dust masks I tried was really effective. Masks that covered just the nose and mouth pushed my glasses up my nose, putting everything out of focus, and to prevent leakage I had to cinch up the straps so tight that it left a red crease in the bridge of my nose. I tried two different full-face masks, without power. One would not accommodate my glasses at all. The other had room for my glasses, but does not seal perfectly, owing to my glasses, beard, and shape of head. ... show more

  • Absolutely will protect your lungs
Style: Kit
Recently I realized that working with resin, fine mica, various fine glitter, etc in my resin casting business meant I was likely inhaling way too many things that could shorten my life expectancy. For a while I used one of the cheapie foam masks made in China, then I used better disposable 3M masks... in the end I decided it was time to invest heavily in proper safety equipment and the 3M Versaflo is pretty much the standard in this area. You eventually get used to the weight of the helmet, though the unit around the waist probably takes a bit longer to get used to. It's not ideal for picking up things on the ground, but you can move around pretty freely once you've got the belt on. One nice aspect of it is the constant air flow. I call it my personal air conditioner. While the shop is completely climate controlled, the constant flow of air is nice and keeps you from feeling closed in despite the helmet and face cover. I do wear glasses with mine and it works, though it can be a bit of a hassle to get the face plate down without knocking them off my face. It's not inexpensive, but neither are hospital bills dealing with lung issues.... ... show more
