I ordered this hoist for light duty work around the shop and yard. It arrives in a convenient case that I doubt will get much use for me but is still a nice addition. Let's just make this clear, this is definitely a light duty hoist so don't order it for heavy lifting. It says its rated to 550 lbs., but I don't know if I would even trust it to that extent other than if I was lifting something I didn't mind potentially dropping and it was in a safe spot. A few points to address. First, the part of the chain that mounts to a base uses a plastic handle which is very lightweight and frankly I don't think very reliable looking. I plan on swapping it out for a metal ring or other type of hook because I don't like relying on plastic to secure things that will be hanging from above. The next thing is the switch for lowering and raising which feels a little looser than I would prefer, it works but I suggest treating it with care. The third thing is that regardless of which way I put the switch, if I put too much force on the chain it can still pull through even though it should be locked to prevent it. A final note is that the handle can get in the way depending on where you place it, not a big deal but needs to be planned ahead when using. Now with all of that said, I still don't mind this hoist as long as it is used within the guidelines and with a little common sense. I use this all the time. Main use is hoisting engines. It has good control when lifting and lowering. Once there is no load, it can be put into neutral and free spool.
