Features

  • -NEW- Re-engineered low power coil with up to 50% less heat generation. The valve starts as 19W and as it heat up to operating temperature power reduces to approx. 10-13W.
  • Constructed of industrial grade brass, this valve is corrosion resistant, more conducive for welding, optimal for higher temperature projects, and can be used with gasoline, diesel fuel, kerosene oil, natural gas, air etc. Due to the chemical composition of brass, this valve should NOT be used with projects involving drinking water or other water projects.
  • This valve was manufactured with a VITON seal. VITON is the most durable and high performance rubber material with the ability to resist high temperatures and corrosive chemicals and other fluids like gasoline, diesel fuel, oils, and lubricants.
  • This highly responsive valve will open and close in less than 1 second when actuated; meaning it will open or close the flow instantaneously when energized or de-energized. Also, our U.S. SOLID engineers have determined that the life cycle of this valve is well over a million cycles with proper operating conditions and maintenance.
  • PLEASE NOTE: This valve is NOT a continuous duty valve and should NOT be in continuous use for more than 8 hours in a single cycle; to do so will shorten the life of the valve and may cause the core of the valve to burn out. If you need a continuous duty valve for your project please search for our U.S. SOLID Motorized Ball Valves.

Description

U.S. Solid- 3/8" 12V DC Normally Closed Solenoid Valve, VITON gasket, Solid Brass U. S. Solid Normally Closed Electric Solenoid Valve; 3/8”ports, brass body, Viton seal, 12 volt DC, for air, water, or fuel U.S. Solid normally closed (N/C) electric solenoid valve is constructed with a durable brass body, two-way inlet and outlet ports with three-eighth inch (3/8") female threaded (NPT) connections, and heat and oil resistant Viton gasket. The direct current coil energizes at 12 volts DC;voltage range +- 10%. 18 Watt power rating. Direct lift valve operates from 0 PSI to a maximum pressure of 145 PSI (0 MPa to 1.0 MPa). Operational pressure range for water: 0 to 128 PSI; for oil: 0 to 99 PSI; for air or gases: 0 to 128 PSI.(4 mm) flow aperture permits a unidirectional flow capacity of 0.6 gallons per minute (GPM) of water at 60oFwith a pressure drop of 1 PSI (0.6 Cv). Operational temperature range (steady state) -5 to 80 Celsius. It is also designed to withstand short exposures to 14 to 248 degrees Fahrenheit; -10 to +120 degrees Celsius. Suitable for outdoor use; not for use underwater. Suitable for use with hot or cold water, gas, air, very low viscosity fluids (< 20 cst), oils and hydrocarbons, e.g., gasoline, kerosene, or diesel fuel. Valve is not intended to be energized continuously for more than 8 hours. This can lead to burnout of the coil, and malfunctioning of the valve. In cases where this is necessary, it is recommended user install a computer fan to keep valve cool. Customers chose this general purpose valve for: do-it-yourself projects, moderate temperature applications, harsh chemicals, flow control for irrigation systems, reverse osmosis system, electronic control of tank selection, water line, or motorcycle air shocks. Manufactured in China. Model: USS2-00006. Quality and/or conformity managed in accordance with standards: ISO 9001:2000; GB/T 19001:2000; European EN61000-6-1:2001 and EN61000-6-3:2001. Direction of the flow (most U.S. Solid Valves are UNIDIRECTIONAL) FLOW DIRECTION Make note of the arrow on your valve. Most U.S. Solid valves are unidirectional. This means they are intended for flow in one direction only, in the direction of the arrow. See Figure 1 for location of arrow. If connected in opposite direction, the valve will not actuate properly (will not close for Normally Closed valves). Additionally, be sure the medium passing through is filtered. If not, particles will cling to the gasket over time, which can cause it to not seal properly. National Pipe Thread, Standard USA thread (use Teflon tape to seal) THREADING U.S. Solid Valves follow National Standards for pipe thread. In the U.S.A. we use NPT, while in England we use BSPT. We recommend use of Teflon tape to ensure seal of the NPT threading, as shown in Figure 2. The tapered male and female thread are forming angled surfaces that with increased torque squeeze the Teflon tape that results in a tight seal. It is suitable to liquids, gases and even for high vacuum. NPT seal is known to be use even in UHV (Ultra High Vacuum) applications. Note that this particular valve is not pneumatic by design but numerous of our customers use them for compressed gasses. POLARITY For valves with 2 wires, the valve will actuate regardless of which terminal each wire is connected to (+ or -). Some units, like those pictured to the left, include a ground wire. Open up the connector and look for the ground symbol, shown in the corner of Figure 3. For valves with a ground wire, please be sure to ground the valve. For the other two wires, the valve will actuate regardless of which terminal each wire is connected to (+ or -). OVERHEATING These valves are not intended to be energized for more than 8 hours continously. While most do not have more than 18W of power, the coils are in a contained area, and can burnout if energized for too long. If necessary to energize continously for extended periods, we recommend a computer fan to keep the coil cool. GASOLINE WARNING Note whether your solenoid valve has a VITON gasket, NBR gasket, or another type. NBR gaskets are not intended for use with gasoline, kerosene, or other petroleum products. If your valve is needed for these, please purchase a valve with a VITON gasket. PRESSURE All solenoid valves need some pressure to actuate. This is especially true of pilot or indirectly operated valves. CA PROP65 WARNING This product can expose you to chemicals including lead, which is known to the State of California to cause cancer and birth defects or other reproductive harm. They are not allowed by federal law to be installed for potable water use in the U.S.A. and its territories.

  • Revised review after testing replacement - Really impressive customer service!
I originally posted the negative review below, and almost immediately after posting it, the owner of the company not only issued me a credit, but he sent me an email acknowledging they had a manufacturing problem. He also offered to send me out an immediate replacement, and asked that I call him personally. So, I called, and he answered - on a Sunday. As background, I bought this solenoid over a year ago, but had not installed it until last weekend, so I had exceeded the warranty period and they were under no requirement to address my concerns. I was very impressed that he admitted they had a manufacturing/supplier problem and they were replacing the units. He explained that some people do not understand these types of valves are not intended to be energized (i.e. be kept in the on/open position) for an extended period of time. The valve is opened via an electromagnet which by their very nature will generate some heat over time. That is both entirely reasonable and in line with the additional research I had done. This was also in line with my particular need (to open a low-pressure LPG line in a boat/RV when cooking, and automatically shut off the supply when the switch is turned off). I also determined this is consistent with other solenoids. He went on to explain that there are better solutions for valves that need to be kept open for extended periods. I put in the replacement, and am happy to report that while the solenoid gets warm, it is much cooler than the first one, and the draw went from 2 amps on the first unit to about 1.2 amps on the replacement. As sailors, we are always concerned about battery draw as we sail for many hours without running the engine, so unnecessarily drawing down our battery bank is not something we want to do unnecessarily. In short, I am extremely impressed by someone who cares enough about their business to fix a problem even after the warranty period expires - and to be honest when a manufacturing or supply problem is discovered. I will now go out of my way to buy from US Solid in the future. ORIGINAL REVIEW: I bought this valve as I had to repair the system on my boat about a year ago. I finally got around to replacing my old solenoid which was quite rusty, but still worked. Upon hooking this up, it ran WAY hot, measuring over 180 degrees on the outside. Now I have to replace it immediately after putting it on. I see they no longer sell this unit. ... show more

  • The valve works fine and as designed
I purchased this along with a DeeZee 38 gallon auxiliary diesel fuel tank and install kit. This item was "recommended" to buy along with it. The valve works fine and as designed. I just failed to read the "0.5 gallons/minute" spec. With a 3/8" pipe fitting, 4mm orifice, and about 3' of 5/16 fuel hose, the test flow with gravity flow was approximately 1 gallon/5 minutes. It didn't dawn on me that the flow could not keep up with fuel consumption by my 2003 F250 6.0 Diesel while towing a 10,000lb travel trailer. As a result, the valve was "on" for about 6 hours to ensure that I didn't run out of fuel while on a recent trip. In addition, the valve got extremely hot to the point that when I stopped, the valve had that "something is hot/burning" smell and was definitely not touchable. So, I removed this valve before my travel back and just used the manual valve that came with the DeeZee install kit. This worked better than having the small orifice vale. If you need one of these valves, I would recommend the 1/2" 12-VDC model with a 6 gal/min flow spec. ... show more

  • 4mm orifice means slow flow.
This would have been perfect had it not have a 4mm orifice. I used it for a diesel aux tank shut off, and when open it metered fuel so slowly, I burned fuel faster than it allowed through that little hole. Why have a 3/8 thread and such a small orifice inside?

  • Updated - Cannot recommend. Started smoking.
I had read that these run hot and I was concerned that running diesel fuel through a hot valve might not be the best idea. So, I hooked the valve up to my battery before I connected it to the fuel lines. The unit I received started smoking withing minutes of having power applied but Amazon refunded my money without issue. I then purchased a motorized ball valve and that works perfectly. Update - I was contacted by the manufacturer and they offered to send me one of their new re-designed solenoids. I accepted their offer and this review is for that new solenoid. I repeated the test that caused the first unit to start smoking and found very different results. This unit was just warm to the touch after 10 minutes (83F according to my IR thermometer).. This is such a drastic improvement that I have to wonder if the first unit was just bad. But either way, this unit works just as I would expect. Thank You U.S.Solid for great customer service. ... show more

  • LEAKS fuel out the electrical connection!
Hooked this up and tested it - fine. Came back 2 days later and it had LEAKED all the fuel out the electrical connection! Tank was empty, when I filled it, gas came out around the electrical wires. This is NOT a safe product at all and could easily start a fire as it is advertised for use with gas!

  • Looks great but will not work in my application
This is a heavy valve that appears to be of quality construction. I am needing it for a gravity feed situation. 3/8" ports but is internally restricted down to a very small diameter. Would probably work well in a pressurized system. Returning without attempting to install.

  • Good product
I had a different solenoid on my diesel transfer tank, it would overheat after about 15 gallons and shut off, this one is slow but is reliable, even my switch isn't even getting hot anymore, im very happy with it

  • Fair value fair quality
I use this as a shut off valve between my skip tank and trucks filler neck. Works great I think.lol. I have never ac ty u ally check to see if fuel gets by, but haven't noticed any drop in fuEl level of slip tank, but I also have a pump plumbed right after this valve and don't think fuel can get past pump as it is a positive displacement rotary vane pump. I would recommend this product. Fair value and ok quality. I didn't like how the wires are attached to it so I sealed it with some RTV silicone sealant. ... show more
