I was attracted to this 2-drawer toolbox from Blowell because it has a very similar design and colors to resemble a number of my existing vintage Craftsman tool boxes in the shop, where it will look right at home. Secondly, the advertised “ball bearing sliders” (drawer slides) intrigued me as they are not commonly found at this price point. It is always nice to have the drawers glide in and out even when they are loaded with tools. Of course the overall thickness, rigidity, and weight do not match my similar older boxes, as they were relatively much more expensive back in their day. The drawers and main box appear to be made of ~24ga. steel which is .0239” (.603mm) thick overall, and folded over double in some critical places for extra rigidity. Spot welds are very clean and numerous. The powder coat is even and smooth, although it is a “satin” finish, not the gloss found on toolboxes of old. There is no “removable internal utility tray” as mentioned in the pictures on the product page, and it annoys me that some of the pictures are clearly photo-shopped and the box is not to scale in those, possibly giving a false impression of size. Additionally, as others have mentioned, it is labeled as “waterproof”, and I am glad that the makers of my work boots didn’t subscribe to the same standard. This box is, in no way, “waterproof”, although I will grant them that the overall powder coat nets this box some significant resistance to rusting. Overall, the drawers move very nicely on the ball-bearing slides, but they are hard to close fully due to a friction latch at the closed end of their travel which is much too tight. Maybe it will wear in later. This isn’t a “pro” carry around tool box, but it’s very nice for hobby and light professional use in my opinion as an old-time mechanic. I like this tool box quite a bit because it makes it so easy to access tools across different sizes. In my previous tool box, I would often lose the smaller tools to the bottom of the chest. But having sliding drawers makes it much easier to organize and locate tools while in the garage. This style of tool box does add quite a bit of heft, as this metal box is very heavy, especially when loaded with reasonably sized tools. Because of this, I wouldn't call it portable, it's more of a mini chest that you can tuck in the corner of your workspace. The drawers themes have very nice sliding rollers that soft close and hold themselves in relatively well. If you tilt the box too far, they may fall open if there are weighty tools in there. One thing I am concerned about is the handle. I feel it is not reinforced enough to put up with the weight of the tool chest in the long term. I would have liked to see some trusses to help connect the handle to the weight of the entire chest, rather than just the lid, which then put the weight on the latches and hinges. The other worry is more of an aspect of the design as it’s meant to mimic the large garage tool chests on wheels. Yes, the fact this box is made of metal, it does feel more similar to the industrial chests, but I can’t help but feel that dragging the unprotected base across my garage floor will wear it down over time, and cause many dings and hurt the appeal of the item. Despite this, I do still think it is a decent tool box and a fair value as long as you don’t expect it to hold as much or be as portable as a plastic tool box. ... show more

I got this toolbox so my husband could get rid of all the clutter from his workbench in the garage. I liked its medium size and vintage styling of classic black and red and silver trim. When it arrived the two drawers were jammed in too far and stuck. It took more force than expected to pry them loose. They did pull out without any damage and now slide very smoothly. The whole tool case looks and feels sturdy and of good quality. There is no way to lock the drawers, however. So, if you tip the box forward, the weight of the tools will make the drawers slide out. This is not a problem if like my husband, you keep it stationary on your workbench. But because the drawers don’t lock shut, it’s not ideal for carrying around. On the other hand, the drawers are really deep and can pretty much hold most of my husband’s hand tools and are just wide enough for his torque wrench. The top compartment is large and spacious with a piano type hinge across the back. This feels a lot more sturdy than I anticipated. The latches feel decent quality too and lock the lid down tight. My husband loves it, we put a lot of heavy duty tools in it and have a smaller plastic toolbox in the house for light duty projects in the house On the whole, the toolbox beat our expectations.
