I hadn't read the description carefully enough, so I was disappointed that more than half of the pads were white/clear, and there were very few in color. I haven't had these long enough to try out all kinds of pens, but I have learned that markers and Flair pens smear. If you are going to use these as flags or bookmarks, they might be ok. But if you plan to actually write on them like most people use post-it-notes for, don't waste your money. There is no ink that won't end up in a giant, messy smudge and back all over your fingers. The material that these notes are made of (plastic?) is not compatible with ink. ... show more

They could be a little stickier. The clear ones are almost useless because you can’t find them easily on a page. You have to use ballpoint or permanent marker to prevent smearing.

They are pretty nice and thick for sticky notes, however, using any gel-like pens cause smearing inside the book. They are very useful if you need to circle something but I usually cut them in half to get the fill statement I need to note. Great product for what I need but unfortunately most pens don't work on it. I seen a review that says ball points work, I didn't have one on hand to test this. I ordered these since I like using translucent sticky notes to annotate or highlight pre made cards for school. You cannot write on these, often even with ballpoint pen and you cannot highlight on them.
