  • Great tool for trimming pots!
Number of Items: 1
I know these mats are advertised for the purpose of holding a bat in place and I am sure they work for that function but I like to use them for trimming pots. Pots stick quite nicely to their damp surface so you don't need to use clay lugs. Mostly they are kind to rims. This particular mat seems to be about the same quality as others I have purchased at much higher prices. I now have it as a backup since they also don't seem to wear out! No problem recommending this one. ... show more

  • Substantial - great cushion

This bat pad is plump and substantial. Seems to meet the standard set by name brands. I look forward to using this for a very long time.

  • A Great BatMate
Number of Items: 1
This is to go between the potter's wheel and the plastic bats to help stabilize them during throwing. These come packed in plastic and slightly moist so they feel a bit silky and spongy - if left out to dry they turn hard and stiff but can be wet down again before use.

  • FIts standard 12" wheels, performs well
Number of Items: 1
This is a new brand of BatMate for me, but performs exactly as expected, based on my experience with a well-known brand's version. Wet the BatMate with water, squeeze out the excess until moderately damp, and place it directly onto your wheel pins, or else stick it to the underside of your bat if it's flat on the bottom. I mainly use bats with molding on the underside that create hollow spaces, so I stick my BatMate to the wheel. The BatMate supplies a gentle cushion and a nice, even connection between your wheel and your bat that helps level out any slight wobbles. When you're finished, rinse the BatMate out and lay it to dry. It hardens and becomes stiff, but to reuse it, simply wet it again and it'll work like new. I've use this one for a couple of sessions so far, and it will last for many more to come. It's a good idea to have a few at a time just for backups, but start off with one and you'll see the difference it can make. ... show more

  • Great pad to use under warped bats
Number of Items: 1
This pad works really well under my warped bats to keep them secure and from wobbling. It’s a good fit on the bat pins and washes and dries nicely. I’m happy to still be able to use warped bats with this pad. Well worth the very reasonable price!

  • Dye not stable
Number of Items: 2
So I know that these are generally used for bat stabilization, they go between the wheel head and the bat so it doesn't knock, but do the manufacturers? Because it looks like from the pictures they are using them instead of a bat, ha! Ok, challenge accepted. Can it be done? Yes it can if you get it damp and then compress it on the wheel head, but it's a rodeo getting the clay to not fly off while you are centering. Also good luck getting it off the wheel with your piece. This is test was very much not for beginners and will absolutely teach the soft material this thing is made of. That being said, it will work to stabilize a bat. Or you could just buy a new bat for the price of this thing and not worry about it knocking. I will say that I was surprised when I went to wash it and tons of dye washed out. It was a whole new color when I was done. Why even dye it at that point? ... show more

  • Very good underneath a bat to prevent sliding
Number of Items: 2
I am a beginner potter and got a bat system as a Christmas gift, but it was terrible the way it shifted and wobbled. I kept stuffing clay everywhere in the hopes of stopping it to no avail. It was next to impossible to center a piece of clay when putting pressure on the clay would shift the bat all over. When I saw this product, I thought it was an actual bat, since the pictures made it look like it was sturdy enough to actually throw clay on directly. It really has the texture of a wet tortilla and is pretty floppy so I didn't even try to use it like that for fear of being laughed at in the studio... So minus a star for what I think is manufacturer ignorance. But anyway- as an underlayer for an actual bat system, this thing is a lifesaver! It is decently thick; you can see how much of my bat pins are left showing in the picture, but that did not pose an issue with stability at all. This mat completely stopped the shifting of my bat, even when I'm really applying the pressure to a hard lump of clay. I even have been using it as a sponge during clean up so it seems pretty durable. As a bonus, it just has a neat texture that is satisfyingly odd and squishy. When it dries though it is very stiff and it won't dry flat- think stale tortilla- so I just drop it however on my shelf and leave it. I am very much in love with this batmate as it has saved many hours of frustration for me! ... show more
