I have a post that needs to go through two 2x8s, and I could have prob used a 6 inch bolt, but I opted for the 8 inch just to give myself plenty of space to work. Well, this bag of 8 inch bolts weights a load, so do some stretches before you try to pick it up. The bag itself is thick plastic and didn't break in shipping. The nuts are in a small bag inside. I used my 1/2 paddle to drill the hole and 3/4 near the top to give some room for the head support. Yep, I split the 4x4 in my picture. This is me learning woodworking. But I have additional brackets to reinforce it for installation. I haven't used any other carriage bolts before, so I can't compare. But these are getting the job done for me. Galvanized bolts that cost less than big box stores. Seams to be good quality and fit between bolts and nuts wasn't as loose as some that I have used in the past.

I got these to use to replace some 2x8 cross bracing on the 8x8 pilings under my house. These fit perfectly with a little left over and having the nuts, bolts and washers all together made the job super simple. These guys make great hardware. I think I've only managed to snap the head off of 1 bolt by Maker and that was pretty unfair of me to assume I could drive something in with an air impact and no pre-drill. Everything i have gotten from Makers Bolt has been good quality. Got these for a future project I will be doing on the barn. everything threads well the finish is a bit scuffed from shipping but its a bolt what do you expect.

These galvanized bolts are the same exact quality as the one from your hardware store. If anything these are better because it this has a washer and nut. These two additional item are galvanized as well. You get more value by buying all three items.

The galvanizing on some of the bolts and, especially, the hex nuts, seems to have been worn due to handling and, possibly, transit. I have placed samples outdoors, in a damp environment, in order to evaluate this potential issue. Otherwise, the bolts and nuts thread together properly and the washers have the same dimensions as other 1/2" flat washers. The bolts are threaded over about 90% of their lengths.
