I used to access back side of raised outdoor deck rails for painting. I was able to secure the top of ladder with bungy cords from deck which allowed me to feel safe standing on ladder to paint. Really love this. Ordering another one for the farm would be able to put in side by side. Use the first one a lot, gutter cleaning, painting and easy transportation from areas. A little flimsy fully extended not bad though. As stated will get another one.

    • YOU RISK YOUR LIFE CLIMBING ON THIS LADDER

LET ME REPEAT THE HEADLINE: "YOU RISK YOUR LIFE CLIMBING ON THIS LADDER." I BASE THAT STATEMENT ON MY EXPERIENCE USING THIS "THING" FOR THE FIRST TIME. I ERECTED THE LADDER TO ITS FULL EXTENSION, ACCORDING TO THE MANUFACTURER'S INSTRUCTIONS. IT WAS TILTED, AS RECOMMENDED, AT A PROPER ANGLE AGAINST A BUILDING ON WHICH I NEEDED TO PERFORM A ROUTINE MAINTENANCE TASK. WITH MY FEET ABOUT HALF WAY UP THE CLIMB (ABOUT SIX FEET OR TWO METERS), THE RUNG ON WHICH I WAS APPLYING MY WEIGHT COLLAPSED. MY LEFT FOOT WAS ON THE RUNG WHEN IT FAILED, MY FOOT WENT DOWN TO THE NEXT LOWER RUNG, WHICH ALSO COLLAPSED. IF I HADN'T HAD AN ASSISTANT HOLDING ON TO THE LADDER I LIKELY WOULD HAVE FALLEN. AND AT THE VERY LEAST INJURED MYSELF, AND AT WORSE BECOME A CANDIDATE FOR AN AUTOPSY. IF I UNDERSTAND THE DESIGN OF THE LADDER, IT APPEARS THAT EACH RUNG HAS WHAT APPEARS TO BE SOME KIND OF SPRING-LOADED PLASTIC CLIP ON BOTH ENDS OF EACH RUNG. 'FAR AS I CAN TELL, THESE CLIPS ARE SUPPOSED TO POP INTO THEIR APPROPRIATE SUPPORT HOLES OR SLOTS AS THE VARIOUS SECTIONS OF THE LADDER ARE EXTENDED. APPARENTLY, DURING MY CLIMB THE RUNGS THAT COLLAPSED UNDER MY WEIGHT (AT ABOUT 220 POUNDS, AND HOWEVER MANY KILOS OR STONES THAT FIGURES OUT TO BE) WHICH IS WITHIN THE LIMITS OF WHAT THE MANUFACTUER SAYS THE LADDER CAN SAFELY SUPPORT, DIDN'T ENGAGE AND THEREFORE WOULD NOT SUPPORT ANY WEIGHT. OKAY--SO IF ONE LOOKS AT THE EVALUATIONS WRITTEN BY OTHER BUYERS, ONE WILL SEE QUITE A FEW THAT ARE POSITIVE. WHAT THE DIFFERENCE OF OPINIONS AND EXPERIENCES SUGGESTS TO ME IS THAT THERE IS A QUALITY CONTROL ISSUE DURING THE MANUFACTURE OF THESE LADDERS. PERHAPS MOST OF THEM WILL WORK ALRIGHT, BUT OTHERS MAY NOT. WHY? MY GUESS IS THAT THE MANUFACTUER DOESN'T CHECK EACH LADDER BEFORE IT GOES OUT THE DOOR. THEY MAY JUST ACCEPT THAT STASTISTICALLY MOST WILL BE OKAY, BUT SOME WON'T BE. C'EST LA VIE. ANOTHER POTENTIAL PROBLEM IS THE PLASTIC PARTS USED IN THIS LADDER. IF ONE LIVES IN THE AMERICAN SOUTHWEST LIKE I DO, OR THE AUSTRALIAN OUTBACK, OR THE SAHARA OF MOROCCO AND ALGERIA, THE EXTREME SUMMER HEAT IN THESE AREAS WILL EVENTUALLY DESTROY ANYTHING PLASTIC IF LEFT OUTSIDE FOR VERY LONG. SO--BOTTOM LINE--DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND FIND SOME OTHER WAY TO GET UP TO WHERE YOU NEED TO GO! ... show more
