I love the utility and look of the VW OEM roof racks on my VW MK7 GTI, but they added a fair amount of wind noise on highways. After evaluating a few brands, I decided to take a chance of Yakima 46" wind fairing - it was the size recommended by Yakima's manual. Installation was very straightforward - you basically run some straps through some openings and tighten them with the included wrench tool until they don't go anymore. The manual says you can optionally cut off any excess material, but I didn't feel like my extended too far so I left it as is. The kit also comes with some clear plastic patches to place on the roof of the car in case you hit a bump and the fairing makes contact. Overall, the installation only took a few mins of effort. I spent more time organizing the parts and visualizing than actual doing. No sweat! Some folks on VW message boards worry about the thickness of the OEM racks and 3rd party fairings, but as you can see from the photos, the Yakima wind fairing works fine and feels very secure. Wind noise has been reduced - I'm no longer conscious of it. Cosmetically, the wind fairing adds to the curb appeal of my car. I'm extremely happy with the purchase. ... show more

When I bought my car it had cross bars added and anytime I was going 50mph + there was a crazy whistle. After adding the windshield it is a non issue! Looks great and drastically if not totally cuts down the wind noise. Install is straightforward and only takes a few minutes. 10/10 would recommend

I got this for my Winnebago Travato. It fit perfectly. The brackets for holding it were easy to install. It is definitely quiter with it installed. don't know if it affect the mileage yet. The only issue I had was when tightening the brackets, on of the brackets would "Jump" and loosen I had to tighten it carefully to get it tight, but not to tight. the straps are a nylon "aircraft" style "hose" clamp. Bought for 2019 Subaru Impreza with Yakima round crossbars due to very loud wind noise. I originally bought the 34" version which seemd too small for the Impreza and one of the mounting straps immediately broke when tigtening. I was really suprised how fragile all of the parts seemed. A previous Yakima fairing I owned from 8 years ago had significantly sturdier parts. I returned it due to the broken strap and opted for the 40" version which fits the Impreza perfectly. Received new fairing in 2 days. Theses mounting straps survived installation. Wind noise is drastically reduced so very happy with that. Installation is quick and simple. Easy install. Mounted on a 2011 Subaru WRX and looks really good on the OEM roof rack. Not much of a noticeable difference in wind noise while driving with sunroof open

Arrived damaged and missing mounting pieces. The box had been opened and taped closed again, so it looks to have been used previously and then sold as if it was new. Will be returning and looking elsewhere.
