Description

With the first iteration of the Tumnus, Wampler perfected their take on the sound of THE mythical overdrive. With the release of the Tumnus Deluxe, Brian has set the new standard. Thanks in large part to the design’s articulate- sounding buffer, all of the clarity, punch, and detailed breakup of the original Tumnus are still there. But if you prefer the sound of true bypass performance, just hit the switch on the side of the pedal for uncolored tonal purity.

  • Makes me smile more! Versatile Monster.
Style: Tumnus OD/Boost Deluxe Pattern Name: Pedal
Hi all! Eric the soloist here. Love the Tumnus Deluxe from Wampler after a year of ownership. First, the pedal is super versatile. You can use it as a boost for cleans and/or distortion. They call it a transparent pedal and I agree. You can layer it over what you’ve got to fine tune any sound without totally blowing out the character and EQ of your sound. Often I play through a small tube amp on a clean-ish setting and use the Tumnus as my primary gain stage. This works sweet for blues but can heat up for rock as well. The “hot” setting is next-level. Often I try to emulate Joe Satriani and the hot brings out more sustain, harmonics and overtones. All the while it stays composed and articulate. For anyone trying to find the perfect distortion/overdrive sound and is layering pedals already, this pedal is a must-have. I like to layer with a Wampler Plextortion (pushed through a 1 watt tube amp) but often play around mixing it with my Boss metal zone or a fuzz. The one pedal that never changes… the Tumnus. It just makes me smile. 5 stars! Eric ... show more

  • It's a Klone, and it's loud!
Style: Tumnus OD/Boost Version 2 Pattern Name: Pedal
This pedal is everything it's advertised to be, including the thing they don't say. This is a great sounding Klone. I've never played an original so I can't attest to how "accurate" the Tumnus is, but I really don't care. I run it Josh Scott-style as a heavier drive stacked behind a lighter drive. It delivers all the tone characteristics that stand out to me in his videos using a KTR after a Morning Glory in this way, which is plenty close fas far as I'm concerned. There's a sweetness in the mids that stands out compared to other circuits and I really like it. I assume that's what everyone's paying $5k for with the 'real' ones. I'm surprised how much volume this pedal can produce. Running it with the gain around 75-80% I have to keep the volume in the 10-15% neighborhood. When you bring the gain down you progressively have to bump it up to more 'normal' settings, so maybe the intent was to give sufficient volume for those that want to run it as a clean boost? This isn't an issue at all (who cares where the knob is if it's doing what you want?), but definitely a notable characteristic of the pedal. I was torn between this one and the Rockett offering (who built some of the silver centaurs for Klon). I ultimately went for this one because of the form factor and I'm glad I did. It's tiny. It is really well constructed as well. I'm sure the Rockett is great, but if you want to save some space the Tumnus does the thing. The LED is blue. Since the pedal is gold I kinda expected amber or something, but that's the worst thing I can say about it. Oh, I don't think this has the magic diodes though, or the goop, so it's clearly terrible despite all the praise I just gave it. ... show more

  • Awesome pedal for the money
Style: Tumnus OD/Boost Version 2 Pattern Name: Pedal
I use this as an always on for my clean channel but love what the tumnus does, makes amp sound more full without having shrill highs. Wish i would have discovered this years ago, bravo mister wampler

  • Very transparent overdrive
Style: Tumnus OD/Boost Deluxe Pattern Name: Pedal
This is the most versatile overdrive that can handle many jobs but Klon like performance is what it’s most known for. Built like a tank. This pedal stacks very well too. Must have in my opinion

  • Great pedal but needed disassembly to spray dirty gain knob
Style: Tumnus OD/Boost Deluxe Pattern Name: Pedal
TLDR - Great sounding pedal but had to completely disassemble it to clean the gain pot after moderate use. I have had this pedal for a year and a half and I can say I love the sounds this thing is capable of. I use it with the gain between 3 and 5 o'clock and the hot switch on. Stacking it into other overdrive pedals has been fun. I recently picked up the Wampler Plexi-drive which I've settled into using as an on the edge of breakup amp in a box that I push into glorious overdrive with the Tumnus Deluxe. Alone both pedals sound good but together they sound amazing. Think: complex rich harmonic overdrive. This pedal is versatile, you can use it like I've described or as a clean boost or like a tube screamer (gain low, volume high). It sounds better to my ear than a tube screamer when used like this but tastes vary. It sounds great, its warm but articulate. However I did run into an issue when going from using it as a dirt pedal to a boost pedal. The culprit was a dirty gain pot. When I turned down the gain, I heard a loud hissing noise that overpowered any guitar signal that managed to get through. I thought the pedal was ruined so I emailed the guys at Wampler to see if I could get it fixed. Jerry suggested that I use a deox cleaner on the pots. I was skeptical since I've heard dirty pots on a guitar and this was a constant loud hissing noise, unlike the temporary scratchy sound you get when turning the knobs on a guitar. I figured I might as well try it, so I dedicated a Saturday afternoon to take the time to disassemble it and spray the pots. Holy crap it worked! So aside from the somewhat tedious disassembly of the pedal to spray the dirty pot, I love this pedal. Its a little spendy but it does have a premium feeling footswitch, the construction and looks feel quality and the sound is great. The only reason I would (and probably will) buy another dirt pedal is because of GAS (gear acquisition syndrome). With all that said and assuming I had the power, this would be a deserted island pedal for me. Its great! ... show more

  • My always-on pedal
Style: Tumnus OD/Boost Deluxe Pattern Name: Pedal
My favourite tone shaper. Absolutely loving the versatility the EQ offers, from light/transparent overdrive, to a high gain, pushed power tone. Definitely a must on my pedalboard. It can be expensive, therefore, trying other Klon clone pedals is always recommended to get to know the sound/tone. If this is your taste, and you can afford it, you will never be disappointed! ... show more

  • It's the "More" pedal
Style: Tumnus OD/Boost Version 2 Pattern Name: Pedal
I mainly use it as a boost after a Revv G3 distortion. It gives the sound more punch and clarity. I liked it so much, I bought an additional (used) Tumnus to go in the loop.
