  • Maybe I had bad luck, but my unit stopped operating 2 months ...
Style: Air Compressor
Maybe I had bad luck, but my unit stopped operating 2 months after I bought it. I used it only twice. During the second time, after I turned it on, it burped once, the indicator light went off, and it became as dead as a brick. Switching it to another car's 12v outlet made no difference. Sending it for warranty repairs requires postage, a $20 "inspection fee," AND return postage, according to the manufacturer's website. Total cost is likely to exceed the purchase cost of this product. I hope my experience is not representative, but be assured that the warranty is completely useless if something goes wrong. ... show more

  • Runs hot and then shuts off - Will leave you stranded if you’re not careful.
Style: Air Compressor
Bought this compressor about 2 years ago and it was nothing but a disappointment unfortunately. Despite the great reviews, my compressor didn’t provide much more than frustration. I’m not sure if I received a defective unit or if this is just the expected performance for these compressors. I have 17in tires - 215/55/17 for reference. They’re rated for 44 psi maximum and my vehicle manufacturer’s guide recommends inflating the tires to 38 psi. This compressor would not inflate any tire past 30 psi before it became too hot and then shut off. I’d have to wait a good 5-10 minutes before inflating another tire to 30psi if I needed. 30 psi is better than 0 if you have a flat and need to limp back to a gas station/home where you can inflate your tires to a safe pressure, but it’s not worth the money nor the inconvenience associated with this machine. I completely regret purchasing this and recommend going with a more reputable company and a compressor that you can either test out in store or one that is rated well above what you need for your vehicle, that way you know for sure that at a minimum, it will take care of your needs. 1 Star all the way. ... show more

  • Viair customer service has been great.
Style: Air Compressor
Despite the fact I have had two units fail on me, I'm giving this product 4 stars due to the customer service. The first product failed within the first year. The valve somehow got bent during use (it's possible it was ran over by a tire). I paid shipping to send in the unit, and they sent a replacement unit. The second unit failed after 26 months from the purchase. The end of the cigarette lighter fuse became loose over time and fell out. Viair sent me replacement parts, despite being out of warranty. So 26 months later I still have a fully functional pump. However, if I were to purchase again, I would buy the 88p. It has a higher capacity and a faster pump. A time saver that would be useful for autocross and refilling my tires after offroading. A couple tips: 1) Beware of metal, it gets very hot, I leave it outside the bag after use as to not melt the wires or pump line. 2) The best reading you get with the pump is with the switch in the 'off' position. ... show more

  • Works for my purposes
Style: Air Compressor
I've used this to inflate my jeep after I air down to go wheelin'. I read a review that said it inflated to 45psi in 1 minute. 😐 :/ Absolutely not. I air down to 11 psi. I inflate to 26psi. It takes 5+ minutes. By tire 3, the compressor is hot hot hot. Today I gave it a 10 minute break or so and pumped up the last tire. I have done four in a row and you will absolutely burn your hand if you touch the metal on the compressor. Take into account the 5+ minutes a tire and it's close to a half hour deal for four tires. This isn't an issue as I air up the night before and am in no hurry. Having said all this, this unit is smaller and pumps air faster than an old compressor I have. It does only plug into the ac/12v adapter, but I understand you can buy an adapter if you wish to plug into your battery. For my purpeses and the price, I like it. ... show more

  • Great while it worked
Style: Air Compressor
I purchased this product on February 7, 2018 and used it a handful of times before I had a failure a few weeks ago in which I noticed exposed copper wire due to a tear in the sheath. The portable air compressor was always stored neatly in the carrying case and kept in the garage. I would consider this to be a manufacturer's defect considering the limited use, how the unit was stored and that there is no damage to the wire that would've exposed it as seen in the image. Though I was past the 1-year manufacturer's warranty by about 3 months, I was hoping they would repair or replace the product under some "good will" policy considering I've only used the device a handful of times to top off tire pressure during the winter. I reached out to their Customer Service department and their response was that this, "...normally this happens because your vehicle cigarette lighter socket is not giving enough amps to the compressor." I informed them that my vehicle is a 2013 Subraru WRX and their response was, "...Subaru WRX cigarette lighter socket does not support the 15Amps most import vehicles cigarette lighter only supports up to 12Amps and the compressor requires minimum 15A." To me this explanation does not support the reason why a wire would develop a tear in the sheath. I could understand if too much electricity was going through the wire and causing it to be damaged but, at worse case scenario, my vehicle wouldn't have provided enough power to run this though it has always functioned fine. To their credit, they did offer the following solution, "We can’t repair them but if you want to send it in we can see if we can replace it with the correct model." The correct model being the 75P which did not receive favorable reviews. I think Viair should have done the right thing and just replaced this unit for me and I would've just reserved it for one of my other vehicles. Overall, the device was great while it worked but service after the sale would keep me away from the brand. ... show more
