No it's not a gimmick, nor a lie. This soap really works. I've been repurchaisng this item now for 4 years. So what does it do for me! I'll tell you! Please keep In mind this soap is not a miracle worker it requires use dedicatedly over time. So what has it done for for my oily sensitive skin. With prolonged use it: 1. It helps evens and brighten skin tone 2. Helps fade scarring 3. Helps reduce acne and blemishes 4. Helps reduce the looks of dark spots if any What this product does NOT do is bleach the skin. This is not a skin bleaching item. So if that's what you'd like it's not for you. I however was not looking for that particular usage. I typically cut one block into 6 smaller squares and use each smaller square as a face wash. I rub thebsoap between my hands till foamy then apply to the skin. Then I use a facial cleansing brush to clean the face. WARNING work quickly this product is not meant to be left on the skin if you feel ANY tingling or irritation even the slightest that's your cue to rinse it off immediately. This product will dry out your skin. A serum, hydrating moisturizer, and/or leave on face mask is HIGHLY recommended. Furthermore in some cases your skin may feel raw. That's okay as long as its not irritated. I do recommend using this product 2-3 times a week until you build up your tolerance. If going into direct sunlight after use pair with a facial sunscreen! Trust me this will help your progress! But overall a tried a true product of mine. Little bit goes a long way. And make sure you are using it consistently. From my experience you can start seeing resukts with a proper skin care routine in 3-4 weeks. ... show more

This product was decent but it contains a toxic chemical and vitamin C should only be mixed with kojic acid in small amounts (unsure how much vendor has used). I loved smell, the lather, the way my skin felt after using it. It did brighten my facial dark spots a bit, not so much my body skin. My skin felt more "loved" overall after uses. After using it 1x/day x 3 or 4 days, I noticed my facial skin became kind of rashy and sensitive to touch/sun. Looking on the ingredient list, this soap contains FD&C Yellow, a.k.a tartrazine, which often causes skin irritation and allergic reaction. It has also been found to hinder embryo development and disrupt hormonal harmony in men & women. It does lighten the dark spots, but with a cost. The soap is good, and other may not have the same experience I did, but I would just be cautious of the ingredients/chemicals you are putting on your porous skin and when you notice a negative change, stop using and look for something different. This is my daily cleanser for my face and neck. I have been using this brand for several months and after an initial cleanse, I apply a layer of lather and leave it on for a full minute. The results I have are incredible. I've noticed a dramatic reduction of acne and appearance of pores. My skin has smoothed out and looks healthy. There isn't any residue; my skin is clean and has a natural glow. This soap has a citrus scent but I don't notice it lasting when I moisturize.
