  • Not entry level equipment.
First I will make note that I just installed this, and it is my first Ubiquity AP. A little history, years ago I learned through experience that "consumer grade" routers and wifi products were only designed to last a couple of years before you had to buy a new one. That was usually a software thing, but sometimes the hardware died. I got tired of constantly replacing gear so I bought my first "enterprise grade" network gear about 15 years ago. In that endeavor I learned Cisco can be complex to program. I was going to school to be an electrical engineer at the time and that made it easier, but not easy. A couple of years ago I learned about Ubiquity. They have a market in the middle. Not quite full "Cisco enterprise grade", but better then your standard "consumer grade" products put out by the likes of TP Link, Netgear, and others that are commonly found for home use. My purpose in typing all this is to address some of the negative reviews I have read. Those that say it was hard to set-up or didn't work when plugged directly into your providers router. Well, this is not your "consumer grade" plug and play product. This will require some tech savvy know how and you will need to be familiar with how networks function and how to program them. If you need plug and play, this is not for you. If your a tech nerd or a network professional, I don't need to explain any more. My only gripe would be that the UniFi line does not interface with the Edge line. My router is a Ubiquity Edge, this is a UniFi, and both have their own interfaces. I will update with longevity. I have two Cisco switches (Catalyst 2950) which are nearing 15 years old and still function flawlessly. I doubt I will get the same longevity out of this AP, but time will tell. ... show more

  • Work great, easy to install
Installed 3 of these in my parents newly constructed house and wired them back to a POE switch. Super easy to configure and now they operate as a single wifi network in the house, handing devices off as they move through the house. I set them to auto-update and can check on them a few states away if my folks have issues... which they haven't. These have been running non-stop for nearly a year with no need for intervention. Good feature is that you can turn the activity light off so that they don't draw attention to themselves. ... show more

  • Horrible WiFi
I have had a few recommendations to get this device. But I literally spent hours trying to install the stupid software for it. It runs using Java and Java is extremely picky with it. I had to uninstall Java completely and reinstall it for the software to work. And after Java has an update pushed it would not longer work again. So once again it was uninstall everything and reinstall in, this was only within a weeks time. I have Xfinity for my internet and use their modem I read that a lot of people had to put it in bridge mode to get this to work, which again is not the case. You have to connect in right at the modem with a computer and run the software for Ubiquiti to find the device and get it to run. The software isn't the most user friendly and takes a while to get used to it. It would have been worth it in the end but the range on this is absolutely horrible. The software has a option to upload a picture of your floor plan and put in walls and windows etc and scale it to your house size which I did. My house is only 45x36 and with this is the middle of my house I couldn't even get a full signal to my devices towards the outer rooms.. It was around 2 bars which isn't any better than the wifi my xfinity kicks out. I changed the settings around trying to get more range out of it, I upped the transmit power and changed the channel settings from auto or a selected channel. And still the range wasn't any better. Even sitting right next to it, my xfinity still had faster download speed than this. I even talked to customer service trying to find out if there were any other settings I could change to help the range. Worst customer service, your on hold for a very long time and then its a lot of waiting around for them to reply to your questions. And they are clueless to help you, and suggest things like upgrading firmware or moving the device to another location. All of which were tried several times. The map is pretty good at actually showing the kind of service you will get. My house is only typical drywall and 2x4. And even going to the next room over would cut the speed in half. I really wanted to like this device, and have come to the conclusion that older devices worked really well but they have really cut down on range with these newer ones. Conclusion buy something else and don't waste hours and days trying to get this to work in your house. Perhaps in a warehouse or office setting without walls these would work better. ********************** The second picture shows the older LEGACY AP PRO device and if I could have had a single that good in my house I would have loved it, unfortunately when I talked to Ubiquiti they said this device was being phased out and would not be supported by them for much longer. ... show more

  • Where Have You Been All My Life?
Fastest WiFi I've ever owned. I'm actually getting the Comcast speeds I'm paying for. On WiFi. Be sure that you have a Gigabit router or you'll be bottlenecked (I'm using the Ubiquiti EdgeRouter X). As others have mentioned, configuration is a little complicated if you're not a techie. But you can do it, and the payout is worth the patience ... show more

  • My range and speeds are so much better than any other AP I have ever owned
I don't know what I waited so long before buying a proper wireless setup. My range and speeds are so much better than any other AP I have ever owned. There is a little setup involved, but if you have a basic application it can all be done from the app on your phone. Note, this is not a router but just an access point. If you don't have a router, or don't know the difference between a router and an AP, then this guy is not for you. ... show more

  • Works great, easy to manage and expand
This replaced an older UAP that only had 100mb uplink. With this AP my laptop's connection went from 144mbps to 400mbps, with no other changes. Just swapped the older UAP out with this, and let the Unifi controller configure it the same. These are the only APs I haven't had to constantly tweak to get enough coverage, fast speed, and consistent connections in my house for the last 12 years. I love the fact I can add more to extend service to my barn and have them all linked so I can roam from one to another without switching SSIDs. I've never been able to get similar function from other APs to work right. ... show more
