  • Network Deployment Tips for the RE715X
Style: AX3000 WiFi 6 Extender
First and foremost I really like this range extender device and I recommend it, but not as a mesh networking device unless you live in a small space (about 12 to 1500 sq feet). The living area in my house is about 2400 sq feet and although I have a newer AX router (tp-link AX5400) my goal was to insure I have strong wifi in every room of the house. So I bought three of these and deployed them throughout the house. My wifi is great no matter what room I'm in (they have been is service since April 13th). I have not had a single problem and the only maintenance now is to upgrade the firmware occasionally. The following are tips I strongly suggest to get the best performance from them: -No matter how many of these you purchase, configure them as ACCESS POINTS, not as mesh routers. The reason is unless you have a tri-band router that you can dedicate a discreet band exclusively for the range extenders to communicate to your router, up to half of the range extender's bandwidth will not be available for your devices' use. You want the range extender to communicate to your router over Ethernet, not wifi. When my house was built I had the house wired for Ethernet, but in my dining room (see first photo) where I had no Ethernet I had to use a tp-link powerline adapter to get an Ethernet connection back to the router. If your house has no Ethernet wiring, no problem, for $50 you can purchase a pair of powerline adapters, problem solved. This would be a problem only for very old houses where the electrical wiring may be suspect. Photo 2 is an RE715X in a back bedroom where I had an Ethernet port available. -A few words about the tp-link app TETHER. It's OK to get you logged onto the device, but don't use it to do a complete configuration of the device. Once you get a TETHER session to the RE715X, tap on the RE715X graphic to display device info and make note of the IP address. Plug this IP address into a browser and log onto the device to complete configuration. A design flaw in TETHER is that it assumes/defaults to configuring the device is router mode, not access point mode. This is another reason to configure the device from a web browser; very easy to change mode to AP. -Absolutely upgrade the firmware as soon as possible from your web browser session. This takes too long when done from TETHER. -You want these devices to extend your 2.4 Ghz and 5 GHZ wifi range from what you configured in your router, so configure the range extender 2.4 and 5 GHZ wifi with the same SSID and password you used in your router. -Turn off DHCP in the range extender and let your router hand out IP addresses. You want DHCP operating from only one device. So I hope these tips are helpful and happy networking! ... show more

  • Does the job, not perfect
Style: AX3000 WiFi 6 Extender
Frist off, this is a capable device and is working fine for our purposes. We use it as an access point since we have an ethernet cable run from one side of the house where the main router is to the other side. Overall, the signal has been a noticeable improvement over the AC1200 Netgear that we were previously using. The speeds rates have for the most part doubled over the older access point. Things I don't like. The power plug is on the lower end of the back. For our purposes, this makes it too big to put upright normally where it is plugged in due to a window. So I have it upside down. Seems to work just fine like that after adjusting the antennae. Speaking of which, the antennae only go up and down and not to the side. This does not seem to make a difference, but I cannot test it either way. So I will throw that up in the air. One other thing that I don't love is that TP Link is really pushing to get the app on your phone just like every other product out there nowadays. I personally will not install any apps unless absolutely necessary and I even have a cheapo tablet in those cases using a dummy account (sorry for the aside). However, you can log directly into the extender and change the passwords, adjust the strength and then change it to an access point if you need. So I can not be too nasty about this. The info is there, but it is not the focus. Design overall is meh. I have this behind a plant so it is not too big of a deal. However, I think this looks like the face of a Transformer (ie; Autobots Transformers) when right side up. My older access point looked a little better, but not by much. Overall, I am getting what I need out of this device and the signal has been overall stable. ... show more

  • Works perfectly!
Style: AX3000 WiFi 6 Extender
We've tried tons of other mesh/extender products. Pretty much every "whole home" solution... And they've all been terrible. Either you don't really get whole home or it's slow slow slow or both. We have a TP Link Archer AX11000 as our primary router on our 1gig modem and it's pretty darned great. However, like every house, we have stuff in the walls that blocks the signal at some points. So, added in this yesterday to see if we could improve the front of the house and front yard coverage. Plugged in and followed the WPS steps... It automatically created a One Mesh network (benefit of using two TP products). Coverage? Fabulous. The Archer is a tri band and this extender is only a dual but who really cares? Over 100 feet away in the front yard getting huge signal strength and 100Mbps on the 5g band. And, because it's a mesh that actually works, the SSIDs are the same so you never have to switch your device as you move around. Really really really pleased. ... show more

  • It Does The Job!
Style: AX3000 WiFi 6 Extender
I bought this extender to improve the signal going to tv sets in the living and dining rooms. Up til now they were getting "good" or "fair" as far as signal strength goes. This extender is so much easier to install and get up and running than the Netgear I had before. Just plug it up and put it next to your router. Using the Tether app on your smart phone, tap on "Add New Device" and tap on "Extender." Then, let it go through its motions. Once the item is paired with your router go plug it up in the location you think is best, give it a couple of minutes to establish itself on your network and you're up and running! Just remember to run scan for networks on your devices. After installing the extender I checked the Roku connection and it still read "Fair" or "Good" as far as signal strength goes. When I ran scan and connect it found the extender and now both tv's read "excellent" as far as signal strength goes. As stated earlier, it does the job and is so easy to setup. Glad I bought it! ... show more
