Description

Timber Drum Co. is a small workshop located in Nashville, Tennessee dedicated to crafting MADE IN U.S.A. instruments with locally sourced materials. The sound of these wood blocks is natural, warm and full of rich, knocking tone that can only come from hand-crafted wood materials. This is the real and authentic wood block sound that plastic blocks can only attempt to mimic. This block is built from one solid piece of American hardwood with a hand-rubbed oil finish that darkens the look while bringing out the natural wood grain. Our one-piece design projects a focused tone that cuts through other instruments with plenty of volume. It is also extremely durable. Multiple sizes are available, which allow you to create complex rhythms with changes in pitch, since the larger the block the lower the pitch. Add a Timber Drum Co. wood block to your personal collection of sound effects, and be ready when you need an authentic tone for your next performance or recording. For the best sound, play near the center and close to the edge. Includes one 8” hard polymer mallet and four rubber feet with adhesive backing that you can add to the block yourself if you choose. Made in Nashville, Tennessee, U.S.A.

  • Great for Music Class
Size: Medium
I bought this to use in my summer school class to to teach music, rhythm, and drumming. The sound of the wood block is louder and higher than the drums so all my students can hear it above the noise of 18 kids hitting the drums! I bet the 8-inch one would be even louder. It appears to be solid and well-made. There is a sweet-spot in the middle but you can also hit the top or bottom to make a different sound. Just make sure you hit the side with the writing, not the back. I love that it's made in USA. I also like that it's one solid piece-not pieces glued together. Highly recommend! ... show more

  • Great build and sound
Size: Large
This woodblock's build quality is excellent, with a beautiful finish. It has a nice, solid heft, weighing 12.4 oz (351 g). A mallet is provided, with a stick length of 7-1/2" and 1" diameter ball head, and according to an answered question, the head is made of hard rubber. Both block and mallet were packed snugly with paper inside a reusable, cylindrical, cardboard storage tube, packed inside an Amazon cardboard shipping box. With the provided mallet, I get a loud, clear and resonant sound. On this block, the sweet spot near the center edge resonates around E6 (2nd E above middle C), and I can get a higher pitch, around G#6, by striking near the left or right edge of the resonating channel. I'm quite happy with this instrument and am looking forward to incorporating it into upcoming performances. ... show more

  • Great woodblocks, but this one had a caveat
Size: Large
I've been playing concert percussion for over 20 years. I already owned the medium woodblock from Timber Drum, but I need two tones. Immediate after opening the woodblock and trying it out, there was just something not right about the sound. It sounded very thud-y compared to my other block. I thought maybe something had happened in shipping, maybe it got wet or cracked or something. However, I couldn't see any damage. I was about to exchange it through Amazon, when I noticed the QC sticker, which had been placed on the bottom of the block. My medium block did not have this sticker placed here. I carefully removed the QC stickers and tried it out. Sounds perfect now. If I could get a message to the manufacturer, it would be to NOT put the stickers on the instruments! It changes the sound in a bad way. ... show more

  • Beautifully crafted
Size: Large
This wood block is beautifully crafted - excellent quality and workmanship. It has a great sound. We used it in my community band as a wood block for Christmas songs. You can hear it ring out beautifully with our 20 member concert band. I would highly recommend this wood block to anyone who needs this kind of accent percussion instrument. ... show more

Size: Large
Solid, well-made block. The sound is pretty good, not as rich of a tone as I would have liked, but it's good. The mallet is fairly hard plastic, it may sound better with a softer rubber mallet. Note that there is only one resonant chamber, not two-sided like most wood blocks. I'm Ok with that, it makes the base more solid. Mine is made of oak. I like that each item has the craftsman's name on the bottom! ... show more

  • Great Tone and Beautiful Craftsmanship
Size: Medium
This block arrived one time, came beautifully packaged, and has a very pleasing sound. I've heard people say, "It's just a block of wood.", but it is much more. The varying and richness of tones of this block make it a very worthwhile investment. I would recommend this to anyone looking to add a nice block sound to their rhythm. I was also pleasantly surprised to find it came with a striking stick. ... show more

Size: Large
This is the 2nd Timber Drum Company block I have purchased. I gave my small block to my junior percussionist so I decided to try the large block. They both have beautiful clear sound and they can be heard above the rest of the worship team or blend in depending on how hard I strike it and if I hit it's "sweet spot". The block came in a protective tube inside a shipping box. I love the fact that it is made here in America. The craftsmanship of the wood is beautiful and the sound is so crisp. The mallot is balanced and works nicely with the block. ... show more

  • Timber Drum CO. T4-L
Size: Large
Very nicely crafted, the wood block has a great sound and the one I received has Timber Drum Co. stamped on the top corner of the block and on the bottom is a label that says what kind of wood it is and the name of the person who made, kind of a little personal touch, my block is made of ash and it does come with 1 mallet and everything came in a nice cardboard cylinder. Overall I'm very happy with my purchase. ... show more
