Description

It is 1954, and Maude Spacely, a retired history teacher, has a penchant for the truth. She knows nothing of DNA but she possesses an uncanny understanding of the human heart. Human nature, she will tell you is never straightforward. Maude is infinitely patient, infinitely dogged and always encouraging. She drives a 1948, meticulously polished slope-back Pontiac, and despite the efforts of her son, will not be trading it in anytime soon. With great effort, she has come to terms with the death of her beloved husband, Tucker Spacely but they communicate regularly...mostly through an overturned plant pot, a heady aroma of honeysuckle and the occasional snap and roll of her bedroom shade. Their enduring love will soothe you. Now, (in The Vanishing Art) a lovely oil painting by well-known Cecily Devon O'Brien has been taken. Filched in the night from the town's local art gallery. Who could possibly want to steal from Mrs. O'Brien or the gallery?Maude teams up with Daniel Huckabee, the local Police Chief, and her former student, to solve the case. Over blueberry muffins and milk, the two sit at Maude's round kitchen table and discuss the emerging and rather puzzling details, one by one. With Tucker's help, of course...Months later, they are at it again when (in The Clueless Shoe) Sara Kwig is found dead in Maude's front garden. Murdered...but by whom and why? The town in which Maude Spacely has lived her adult life, is an imaginary town. It won't appear on any map. It's inhabitants, also imaginary, are quite the cast of characters...but Maude is fond of them all ~ with the exception, perhaps, of Sara Kwig. Still, she and Daniel put their heads together and Sara's murderer is apprehended. Come and spend an afternoon with Maude Spacely, Tucker Spacely, Daniel Huckabee, Hoopsie Morgan, Maizi Milarky, Reeny Wallace, Georgia Puckering, Peaches and so many more. Belle Foster from the Pick and Roll Hair Emporium will delight you. Car chases over fields and through the back roads will excite you. The quiet little town of Brimley, New Hampshire, is not as quiet as you might think. Read more

  • inexpensive
I bought these as a gift for my husband at his request. He had cataract surgery but still needs glasses for certain things. These suit that purpose well for just a little money

  • PERFECT! Regret overpaying..
I overpaid for my first 6 pairs, these were exactly what I wanted. I have a round face w/ high cheekbones, and the frames fit perfectly without movement from my expressions. Buying a second pair for the office.

  • Pretty lenses but don’t feel they will last long
Light weight and pretty design but the arms wiggle some when you open them so I feel these won’t last very long. Thankfully these are not used too often, just for reading in low light. I always feel like I’m looking through a window when I use these though, maikly because they feel like plastic.

  • They're nice but magnification might be off
I ordered a +2.25 magnification but it doesn't seem like it really is. I have a pair of +2 glasses made at an optometrist's, and those are actually stronger than these Readerest's. If I had to guess, they seem more like a +1.75. Otherwise they seem nicely made and comfortable. The coatings give the lenses a slightly yellowish tint to your vision though. ... show more

  • Functional- not fashionable
Pros: lightweight , .50 which are not easy to find and do not fall off my face, like the clear frames too Con: The style is a bit mumsy and not in a cute retro way, when it says anti-glare, it means the optics, not the appearance. On Zoom calls, I can see my computer screen in the lenses... I may keep them as a back up or keep looking.... ... show more

  • Good, but
These are suitable for a small face, so they are perfectly sized for me. However, the arms have a lot of white writing on them, which you can see through the clear frames. Good for the nightstand. Not good for wearing in public.
