  • How to get the sticker off the back
I love the book and bought the Granola from Fortnum and Mason a few times, but then read on their website that the recipe is in the cookbook. I can't wait to make it and several other recipes. Gorgeous book! I'm sure I'm not the only person to think of using GOO GONE. I thought it was worth a try, and it worked. I scraped and peeled off as much of the sticker on the back of the book, as I could then saturated what was left with GOO GONE. It softened the sticker residue and it rubbed right off of the non-porous surface. It took 2-3 times to get it completely off, but now you can't tell there was ever a sticker there. I agree with the reviewer that the sticker marred the beauty of the book. Funny enough, under the sticker, and under the elephants foot, was the original ISBN number and price printed on the book. ... show more

  • Great book with wonderful old fashioned recipes and interesting use of graphics
First, the seller did not remove some newspaper articles of the previous owner --this was a real find! I wish this happened more often. Second, the recipes are stunning classics that will be new most Americans. In a way it compares to Stella Park's book of Iconic American Desserts: recreating the recipes of a nation. The photos are in focus for 25% of the image and the rest is soft focus--subtle and effective. Graphics from the F&M centuries old history/catalogs are sprinkled throughout the book. The Garibaldi Biscuits, known as "squashed fly" to kids, is simple but delicious, being neither too sweet nor too rich, yet still managing to satisfy. Maybe it is the contrast of flaky cracker with squashed gooey raisins. ... show more

  • If you like Coronation Chicken
Bought book for my brother. We recently enjoyed high tea at Fortnum & Mason's. He especially was impressed by the Coronation Chicken & wanted to make it himself at home. This book contains that recipe. I really like the stories for each recipe.

  • Beautiful cookbook.
This cookbook is worth every penny. My favorite store in the world is Fortnum & Mason. My greatgrandparents shopped in F&M. There are beautiful illustrations and photographs in the cookbook. I am so pleased I was able to order this from the U.S. when I can't travel to the U.K. Also ordering it through Amazon meant I didn't have to bring the heavy cookbook home in my suitcase. Highly recommend. ... show more

  • I saw the beautiful display of these cookbooks in Fortnum & Mason's after ...
I was so excited to see this book available on Amazon when I got home from a recent trip to London and Fortnum's. I saw the beautiful display of these cookbooks in Fortnum & Mason's after enjoying afternoon tea there. Our bags were already hitting their 50 pound limits and with regret, I had to walk away from this attractive, artistic, and entertaining cookbook. Since we got home, we have been able to replicate the Coronation Chicken Salad that we enjoyed there. Next on our list is the Welsh Rarebit. There are interesting tidbits of history, amusing narratives, artwork, lovely photographs of the food, and plenty of recipes. ... show more

  • It's a nice book with a lot of very uncomplicated recipes
I ordered this while standing in Fortnum and Mason in London. Much cheaper to have it shipped to me at home than pay for it in pounds and bring it home. It's a nice book with a lot of very uncomplicated recipes, both traditional and modern. Usually there are just a few 'keepers' in any given cookbook, but this one definitely has more than the average. The scone recipe is spot on. The stories about the food and history of the store are fun to read as well. ... show more

  • Fortnum’s Cookery book: a must have for any foodie, Anglophile or bon vivant
I was delighted to receive my Fortnum’s cook book with its unmistakable vintage Fort mum’s blue cover. The recipes are lighter, more flavourful and updated versions of all the British classics.
